Imperial Special Forces are the cream of the crop for the Galactic Empire. Whether it’s for covert operations or to turn the tide against the Rebels, the Special Forces unit is meant to help restore order to the Galaxy. Featuring Gideon Hask and Del Meeko from EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II campaign, the Imperial Special Forces box adds two units to your army.

Recently, Atomic Mass Games sent us the expansion for review. Let’s jump in and see how special these forces are!
Unboxing Imperial Special Forces

In the box, you get two sprues, bases, two unit cards, upgrade cards, and order tokens. Like with all AMG products, there are multiple cards with different languages as well.

Cards for Imperial Special Forces

Like with many Special Forces units for Star Wars: Legion, the Imperial Special Forces come with two unit options: the standard 4-figure unit (at a base cost of 68 points) and the pseudo-Strike Team Inferno Squad (at a base cost of 34). Inferno Squad requires both Del Meeko and Gideon Hask to be equipped. And, of course, there can only be one Inferno Squad in any given army. However, Gideon and Del can be included in other Imperial units that allow Heavy Upgrades.
Both units have Infiltrate, which can deploy by placing the unit leader (and then the entire unit in cohesion) completely within allied territory, which, depending on the deployment setup, can be huge for getting into position on the battlefield quickly. Marksman is great for converting dice upwards, with Reliable 1 granting 1 surge token. Red defense dice, with attack dice surging to hits, is a nice Imperial staple for stats. For Inferno Squad, Retinue: Iden Version is really great for gaining an aim or dodge token (aim being useful for Marksman). However, at the time of writing this article, Iden Version is both out of stock and out of print. So, Imperial players are awaiting her reintroduction to the game later this year. With Inferno Squad, It’s also important to note that the E-11 goes from 1 to 2 black dice, and the health goes from 1 to 2, with Gideon and Del both having 2 health innately.
Gideon Hask brings Coordinate: Trooper, adding his E-11, which rolls 2 red dice. Del Meeko adds Repair 2: Capacity 1, which is great for vehicles. His DLT-19x brings 2 black dice, with High Velocity and Lethal 1. The last Heavy upgrade option is the T-21 Special Forces Trooper, which rolls 4 white dice, with Critical 2.
Expanding Your Army
I am excited to add some more mobility to my Empire Forces. Not having Iden Versio right now is a bummer, but I am looking forward to including her in the army at some point. It’s cool that the Inferno Squad is a little bit more advanced than a regular Strike Team, offering a little more potency in inflicting damage on enemy heroes. I have seen both Gideon and Del used as upgrades in other squads as well. Overall, this is a solid Special Forces Unit, whose miniatures and/or units will bolster any Imperial Army!
To the Battlefield!
I am really excited to build and paint up the Imperial Special Forces for my Galactic Empire Army. A small unit of Inferno Squad looks like a lot of fun to add to the army, but a handful of Special Forces are always a smart choice to have. Once Iden is re-released, I’ll be adding her as well!
