This weekend was the celebration of 10 years of service for Black Desert Online, known as the Heidel Ball 2026. More than that, however, it was also the best demonstration of what it looks like to not only serve your game community, but also deliver on a promise of ongoing support and development that frankly few companies can match. Pearl Abyss has been on a roll lately, with the release of the very popular Deadeye class earlier this year, but the deluge of announcements from this weekend made that look like child’s play. Let’s dig in.

Minigames:
Before kicking things off, players were treated to something fun and frankly unique to BDO – minigames at their events. Four activities pitted players against physical challenges. The first of these carnival-style challenges I tried was a familiar activity called “No Pen, No Gain”. In it, players hit a button and take a chance to enhance their item from base to PEN. Up to five players (and you wanted five as it helped with your odds of winning) would hit a button, and random chance would see you either successfully bump up your item’s power level or fail in the attempt. You only needed one person to move on to the next round, but you had to complete all five rounds to win. By the fifth round, the odds of success were down to just 16%, and ultimately yes – we did fail. That’s how luck works, so I collected my stamp in my “adventure log” book – a sort of record of achievement or at least participation.
Next up was a ball toss minigame. The rules are simple enough - throw three colored ping pong balls into the air and try to land them in the variety of fishbowls at the back of the booth. I scored the latter, landing my ball in the wrong zip code from the fish bowl – apparently this wasn’t my minigame.

The third game I took a shot at was a shooting gallery – something similar to one we saw at the previous event in Texas where the Deadeye was introduced. Players got four attempts at a target, and getting two out of four got you a stamp – something I did twice over as I shot four for four.
The last stamp was an easy one – a test of strength. Having split logs as a kid more times than I can count, I knew exactly what to do here. You are given two swings, and your score had to be more than 777, combined. Letting it rip, I easily scored a 915 – the second highest score of the weekend, so I’m told, beaten only by the person who was running the booth. I’ll take that on any day, as well as my stamp.

Players who managed to pick up at least two of these minigame stamps had a shot at raffles and prizes like Ryzen processors, a few gaming chairs, Alienware keyboards, mice, and headsets, AMD GPUs, and even monitors and LAPTOPS! There were a few other prizes, but let’s get back to those – they were pretty special but they rounded out the night.
The Arena - NA vs. EU
The next order of business was an ongoing clash between the very best players from North America and the European Union. First, let’s meet the players:
The match itself started out with a quick and sharp correction – if the NA team thought this was going to be a sweep, the EU team came with different intentions. After some brief skirmishes where NA seemed to have the upper hand, the EU team came back with a vengeance and dominated the first outing. That wasn’t meant to last, however, and the NA team fired back. Undefeated, they put on a clinic that showed why that team is the gold standard. Don’t read any further if you want to see the results for yourself first...the full match is below:
As you can see, the NA team came out ahead once more. While the EU team made them work for it, and the whole affair did manage to run the clock all the way until the 5th match, NA prevailed once more, taking not only a grip of prizes like brand new AMD GPUs and Alienware, and more, but also the coveted 2026 crystal trophy as well.

With the match concluded, the Heidel Ball was in full swing. Much more news lies ahead, including a huge announcement that few saw coming – another class.
The Agent
There are officially 32 classes in Desert Online now, with the announcement of a fresh new class – The Agent. More than just a female Deadeye variant, this class is a close-up gunner, with a whole lot more than meets the eye. Here’s the official word from Pearl Abyss on the class mechanics, as well as the new class intro that carried a bit of a backstory surprise of its own:
Agent’s combat style is focused on quick combat that switches from melee to ranged combat. A hybrid character, not focused on firing quickly, but rather delivering a heavy blow with each shot – like anyone who loves the Desert Eagle in an FPS.
Deadeye’s main purpose is to run-n-gun and keep mid-range pressure constantly, using her quick attacks to suppress enemies. That said, Agent’s focus is on strategy and assassination – one hit, one kill, if you can.
- Weapon: Revolver – a low-caliber revolver with explosive rounds that take one small point of damage and expand into an AOE attack.
- Sub-Weapon: Hexround – a partner on the battlefield that provides support in combat. The strength of this secondary weapon is that it allows players to string together skills from both weapons.
- Special Ability: Gannicus’s Hexround, Bulletstorm: A reinterpretation of Deadeye’s skill to connect the two classes.
- Projectile: Grenades.

Class Signature Skill:
- Blink: Used to infiltrate, the skill teleports Agent to a targeted location within a set range, with a balancing delay worked into the second immediately after the teleport.
Revolver Signature Skills:
- Run N’ Gun: A skill made to close gaps quickly in order to land two shots.
- Mozambique Drill: Stuns enemy movement to allow the player to apply a finisher – two shots to the body and one to the head of an enemy.
- Other Skills: Bullet of Truth, Concealed Weapon, Reaper’s Barrage, Last Words, Suppressive Shot.
Hexround Signature Skills:
- Hexround Engage: Setting the Hexround to track and suppress the target enemy.
- Reaper’s Mercy: A final hit to a downed enemy.
Grenades skill:
- Demolition Operation.
Agent releases on July 29, 2026 in Korea, globally on July 30, 2026, and on consoles on August 6, 2026.
It’s one thing to talk about these new mechanics, but it’s a complete other to show them, so that’s precisely what the team did.
As you can see, the Agent looks like it’ll be great at holding the midground, suppressing large groups of foes, and closing the distance between foes in the blink of an eye. Surprisingly, that wasn’t the only announcement regarding classes, though.
A new road ahead for classes
The team has been giving players a steady drip of new content and classes for 10 years in North America on PC now, but at this 10th anniversary they’re announcing a slight pivot. The Agent, for example, will release with two paths that aren’t just a jump to Ascension. First, the Agent will launch by the time you read this in Korea, and then globally on July 30th. It’ll then hit consoles just a week later on August 6th – an absolutely blisteringly fast release window, given that consoles require special certification of code. That’ll cover the “Succession Path”. Then, later this year at some point in the winter, the team will revisit the Agent with an Awakening Path – a pattern that will continue into the future. This will give the teams more time to refine and polish each class. It should provide a more balanced class / power dynamic, and a better player experience overall. Given the applause in the room, it seems like it’s one that is very supported by the folks in attendance.

Instant Character Swap and Family Dispatch:
Black Desert Online has always been a social thing, but having to bounce back to the main menu to switch between your various toons has always been a pain. It has always meant a bit of a faff to balance out your hunting group. In an announcement that practically shook the roof, Pearl Abyss not only announced, but demonstrated Instant Character Swap. If that had been the end of it, it would have been awesome, but that was hardly the end of this announcement.

With a swap that looked eerily familiar for folks playing Crimson Desert, the switch between characters was practically instantaneous. However, these alts don’t go into some sort of null space, but now head out into the world to do other things – or they will. In a new thing called “Family Dispatch”, these toons will now head out and perform tasks for you – Gathering, Processing, and Fishing to start. Yes, you’ll get less materials than if you ran out and did it yourself (of course), but you’ll be able to work that passive upgrades angle, once certain (unspecified) requirements have been met. The team is planning on the instant swap “very soon”, but announced that the Family Dispatch would kick off sometime in November of 2026.
Ferrica - your new feathered friend!
While we didn’t get an announcement of a release window, there is a new mount flying your way. A massive feathered rideable bird, the Ferrica in a new option that’ll join horses as a mount. The difference here is that this huge bird flies, glides, drifts, sprints, drifts, and more, complete with cute music. The team was again quick to mention that this mount is still in active development, so it just might be a minute.

New lands, stories, bosses, and much more
In a rapid-fire sequence of announcements, Head of Game Design Division Jesse Joo announced not only Edania Part II – the conclusion of the primary BDO storyline, but also five new bosses, new accessories, upgrade paths, and so much more. Frankly I couldn’t do it justice over what Joo had to say about it himself. Enjoy!
Edania Part II is going to be split into several parts, each with different release dates to keep folks moving forward without just releasing everything all at once. The first release will be the new Sulfur Golem Monster Zone, hitting on July 29th. Half a month later, on August 12th, all regions and items in the Edania Part II will hit, with the exception of two things – the Hadum Boss and the main quest itself. Those last two items will finally come your way just a month later, again releasing in all regions on September 19th.

Hyperboost!
The team wants players who might be returning, or could be trying the game for the first time, to have a more streamlined experience. To that end, they announced a new program called “Hyperboost”. Introduced by Lee Chang and Soon Seong-il, this new revamped progression system streamlines the growth experience by restructuring quest lines, simplifying and improving the process of acquiring loot, and by providing essential materials to help adventurers reach endgame goals more efficiently. The process to upgrade your gear can be a little complex, and Hyperboost aims to make it easy. Check out the entire presentation from the team below:
Heat wave? How about a dip?
Record heat waves globally are certainly making us all sweat a bit. The folks at Pearl Abyss want to beat the heat, and they are providing a new set of in-game outfits to do exactly that. I could explain further, but frankly…this is one you’ll want to just watch for yourself.
Woosa Nendoroid and one last wild surprise!
There are some cool goodies available for Black Desert Online (I personally own a two-foot-tall Knight statue), but the folks at Pearl Abyss wanted something special. Teaming up with Nendoroid, they showcased a brand new collaboration – a highly-detailed Woosa! Could this be the start of a whole line of Nendoroid figures? I’m gonna guess the answer to that will be answered when they start selling.
The last announcement was a big surprise – literally a “one of one” special item that was given to one lucky player. The final prize of the night was a special custom-painted unique Woosa and Maegu minifig presented by none other than Head of Black Desert Game Design, Wansu Yang. This special item once resided on the man’s own desk, and is now a prized possession of one lucky player. Talk about a cool way to end the night!
There was a lot to talk about during the Heidel Ball for 2026 (and frankly I couldn't even take notes fast enough! You might need to check the official site for a LOT more), and thankfully the team was kind enough to sum it up with a great infographic I can share with you now. There was a little something for everyone, so take a look below and find the thing that gets you excited for the Black Desert road ahead. So long, and see you for next year’s Heidel Ball!
