Insania is a cooperative adventure game set around the year 70, where heroes are dealing with monsters, mystic portals, insanity, spreading fires, dangerous events, and eventually some very nasty bosses.
This preview is a little different from most of the games I cover. I did not have a physical prototype in hand, so all of my gameplay was through Tabletop Simulator. The final version of Insania is being developed as a physical tabletop game, so my focus here is on the gameplay, the systems, and what the experience actually feels like.
At the heart of the game is the Effort system, where your heroes use their Physical, Mental and Mystical abilities along with connecting Effort cards to pull off actions. Add in a constantly moving initiative queue, evolving missions, sanity effects, enemies, portals and fire, and things can get out of control very quickly.
And honestly? That’s a big part of the fun.
If you enjoy cooperative adventure games that aren’t afraid to get a little wild, Insania is definitely one to keep an eye on.
