Disney Lorcana: Wilds Unknown review

Finally, some of my favorite characters from Pixar made it into the game. Sadly, the pull rates have me wanting to rip my hair out.

Disney Lorcana: Wilds Unknown review

Wilds Unknown brings my favorite Pixar franchise ever, Toy Story, to one of my favorite card games. The art is amazing, as always, and the play factor of the cards is a lot of fun.

I am not going to cover the full story of Lorcana, but it is something that I like to follow because I believe that Disney/Pixar characters have a lot of narrative potential. With that being said, all of the Pixar characters are appropriately themed to match the set theme as they were in the last releases. My favorites include Buzz, Bo Peep, and Jessie.

Characters from Atlantis also make an appearance, which makes me extremely happy. One of the best things about Lorcana is how the card game brings in characters from all walks of the Disney/Pixar canon and doesn’t just feature the typical favorites. The artwork on the Trove, which features Buzz and Woody, is gorgeous and is by far my favorite-looking Trove that Lorcana has released so far.

I opened a Trove, which gave me a few alright pulls but nothing crazy. It comes with a set of dice, which I won’t be using because I prefer my purple dice, but the dice are alright. You also get a set of card dividers featuring a few iconic characters, as well as some I didn’t recognize. Woody, Buzz, Elastigirl, Gadget, Merida, and Audrey Ramirez from Atlantis.

As for my experience opening the card packs, I opened every pack in the Trove and two booster boxes. As expected, most of my cards were commons and doubles. I also got quite a few uncommon cards and a lot of duplicates for these cards. I got a handful of rare cards and even a few legendary cards. If you’re wondering about any enchanted cards? Nope. Not a single one, which is about what I was expecting.

I ended up using Jessie in my deck. She doesn’t do anything crazy and has a minimal impact on the deck itself, but there is something extremely satisfying about using my favorite Toy Story character while I’m playing. While I’m not happy with the pull rates, I am happy with the artwork, so that makes up for it a little bit.

Disney Lorcana: Wilds Unknown

Great

Lorcana: Wilds Unknown is a fun set to open because it features some of the most iconic Pixar characters ever. It doesn’t shy away from including characters from movies that many would consider a failure, which I strongly appreciate. I do feel like the pull rates could’ve been better per booster box.

Pros
  • Great artwork
  • Strong theming all around, which works well with the characters that were selected to be featured in this set.
Cons
  • Pull rates feel especially stingy.
