A new TCG has hit Kickstarter today called Cataclysm Arcade, which has been developed by some of the legends of the TCG community:
Cataclysm Arcade is the debut release from Mothership Games, the game-led entertainment studio with deep roots in both the tabletop gaming and major Hollywood productions. This game will be the first step toward pairing filmmakers with top game and product designers to expand this property into tomorrow’s most exciting new entertainment franchise. Today, gaming legend Brian David Marshall and Jay Van Hoy, known for his work on such acclaimed feature films The Witch and The Lighthouse, launch an exclusive crowdfunding campaign and trailer, voiced by Jimmy Wong (Sky, Unlikely Hero) and Olivia Gobert-Hicks (Blades, Triumphant) with additional voiceovers from Jim Davis (Hot Mike) and Mental Misplay (Tube Steak).
This highly anticipated new game introduces a world that honors the best of modern storytelling and the retro chic of 1980’s VHS nostalgia, thanks to the jaw dropping art of comic book illustrators Steve Ellis, ChrisCross, Benjamin Dewey, Zach Howard, Nelson Daniel, Jason Masters, Juan Doe and DAF along with TCG illustrators like Ellis, Andre Garcia, Adriano Kitane, Tim Gaedke, Samuel Alexander, and Neon Pennington.
Below are some of the perks exclusive to this campaign:
- One-of-one hand painted original cards, by renowned alterist Eric Klug.
- Awesome Metal Boss Cards that are unique to the campaign.
- “Blood and Steel” foil cards, featuring Steve Ellis’ artwork, in black, white, and red, the first two of which were limited editions to the Early Bird campaign, but additional “Blood and Steel” variants can be unlocked through Stretch Goals.
- People actually have a chance to play the game while they pledge, thanks to the unique product design which is playable out of a single pack of cards. Early Bird booster packs are being fulfilled during the campaign itself.

“Folks told us we were crazy to launch a new TCG without a licensed IP attached to it but the whole reason Jay and I started this company was to tell stories through games” says Brian David Marshall. “Watching this animated trailer while people keep flooding into our prelaunch page for the game has been the most amazing affirmation for us and the amazing team that has been working so hard to get us here.”
The game imagines a world in which an unknown event brought about the near end of humanity in 1986, where pockets of survivors linger in the New York City subway tunnels. Some of these survivors compete in a gladiatorial bloodsport broadcast through old subway system speakers, closed circuit broadcast, and ham radios. A train rolls up, a Boss steps out, and the winner of the ensuing brawl gets to ride the train to the next stop. The goal of Cataclysm Arcade is simple: be the last Boss standing. Pit your Boss against others for a fast-paced gaming experience guaranteed to excite both lifelong players and newcomers alike. Everything you need to play comes in one booster pack, even the dice.

Jay Van Hoy adds “As BDM mentioned, it’s a striking example of what’s possible for an original game and new IP. And it’s thrilling to witness the incredible excitement so far. We couldn’t be happier to share Cataclysm Arcade for the first time, now, with this launch. Everyone on the team has poured their creativity and tireless effort into it, and it’s easy to say that our reward has been the awesome fast-growing community not just on Discord, but at game stores and conventions. We will do everything in our power to honor that in the months and years to come.”
