Prime Video dives into ancient ruins with Tomb Raider heading to the service as a new show

We already knew Amazon was collaborating with Crystal Dynamics on a new Tomb Raider game, but this is a nice surprise. Tomb Raider will be a new series coming from the streaming giant, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge attached in the writer/producer role. After the success of the Fallout show, hopefully this is just the beginning of great games doing well in another medium.

Today, Prime Video announced it has ordered a new series based on the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise as part of a deal between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. The series will be written and produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

This exciting news comes after Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games previously announced a collaboration to develop and publish a new multiplatform Tomb Raider video game. The as-yet untitled game is a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that will add a new chapter to Lara Croft’s story in the Tomb Raider series.

“With great IP, the possibilities are endless. The richness and depth of the fiction allows the Tomb Raider series from Prime Video and the video game from Amazon Games to tell separate stories about Lara Croft’s adventures.” said Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games. ”We’re honored that Crystal Dynamics has entrusted Amazon with this iconic franchise, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this collaboration takes us.”

We look forward to sharing more about both projects as they progress.

In the meantime, Amazon Prime members can claim Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition on PC via GOG, available throughout May. Check out the Prime Gaming May content update for full details on all of the great offers available to members this month.
