Lethal Shadows founder Patrick Rami shares details on new air brush [PAX]

I recently had the honor of attending PAX East, during which I met up with Patrick Rami, the founder of premium tabletop mini company Lethal Shadows. Patrick walked me through the various details of the company’s new painting tool: The Paint Weaver All-In-One Air Brush.

The kit comes with two tips. The first is the professional open-sided tip to give easy cleaning access to the needle. The second is the trumpet cone which is used to protect the needle and user, so you can’t poke yourself or bend the needle in any way.

Moving on to the cup, Rami explains the logic behind it, “Two types of interfaces exist for airbrushes, either a screw on cup that’s removable or you can have an integrated cup. We opted for an integrated cup,” he said. “This gets rid of the chance to cross thread and damage the airbrush body. It gives us the benefit of being able to create a really wide mouth into the body. A huge opening allows you to get in there and clean better,” he elaborated.

Rami also highlighted the dual action trigger, “Up and down motion for air, back and forth motion for paint,” he explained.

There is open sided access to the knurled nut at rear of the airbrush which secures the needle, “The nut lets you take care of a jam on your needle tip because of dry paint without needing to disassemble the rear part of your airbrush,” Rami said.

Regarding the backstop, “On the back is the backstop, so you can prevent the trigger from allowing too much paint through. You can dial it in and get a repeated stroke of the same amount of paint.”

The kit contains a wide variety of components. First off, there are three complete needle kits that come preloaded with 0.3mm, 0.2mm, and 0.5mm needles. That has all the nozzles and tips you’ll need. Rami specified that they are included to remove the guesswork, no need to go out and buy components separately; you know that all of it is the right size.

The moisture trap screws directly onto the airbrush. It’s used to get any moisture in the air trapped in the hose or the pump. A spring loaded valve and open view side to see when moisture is building up.

One of the biggest highlights is the portable air compressor: it is USB-C chargeable, with a multi-LED power readout so you know how much power you have.

Another addition is the modular battery pack, so you can remove the battery pack and have a spare on hand if you need it. “We expect to have a 2 hour run time on a full charge of battery. You can also charge it and use it at the same time,” Rami stated.

Rami pointed out that the air brush is quiet, even with nothing on it, and features an auto start/stop on pressurization to reserve battery life. “For a compact airbrush, you would attach it directly to the compressor,” Rami said.

Additionally, a cleaning kit will be included with metal brushes to properly clean and maintain the airbrush, as well as a four foot braided hose.

This kit truly is everything you need for your Paint Weaver air brush, which in itself is everything you would need in an airbrush.
