Guillotine, a classic Wizards of the Coast card game involving French nobles marching to execution, is getting a new edition courtesy of Avalon Hill. The new version of the game features updated card artwork and a new 3D guillotine, but appears to feature the same ruleset as the original card game released by Wizards in the late 1990s. The new edition of Guillotine will be released on August 1st, 2026, meaning it will be a Gen Con release. This marks the first release of Guillotine since 2005.

In Guillotine, there are three days of executions, with players acting as the executioners. A continuous row of nobles is set up, marching towards the guillotine at one end of the table, with each noble having a different point value. On a player's turn, they can choose to play action cards which can manipulate the order of the line, which can result in scoring more points on a turn or ending the day of executions entirely. The game ends after three days of executions are complete, with the winner determined by who has the most points.

Avalon Hill has seen a resurgence of sorts as an independent publisher for Hasbro in recent years, after it primarily existed as an in-house subsidiary for Wizards of the Coast. Avalon Hill has published a mix of remakes, such as HeroQuest and Betrayal at House on the Hill, and new games like Life in Reterra.
