Wehrlegig Games announces Hell Raisers in Kanawha County

Publisher of historical games, Wehrlegig Games, announced their next project: Hell Raisers in Kanawha County. Slated for a Kickstarter campaign early in 2025, Hell Raisers in Kanawha County is a game centered around the labor movement in West Virginia at the beginning of the 1900s. Learn more about the game here:

Hell Raisers in Kanawha County is a snappy, historical board game about the labor movement in West Virginia at the start of the 20th century for one to three players. Play as a coal company operator seeking profit or as the labor movement demanding union recognition in this highly interactive, competitive game.

Two coal company players will compete with each other by purchasing cards from the market and playing them into their company tableau. Most cards place workers to dig at mines and thugs to keep them working. The labor player seeks to shut these sites down by organizing strikes that will disable access to key company actions. Large, disruptive strikes may generate public outrage and catch the attention of newspapers, helping fuel the movement and garner the attention of prominent labor leaders like Mother Jones.

Featuring a dynamic Pax-style card play, terrifying dice rolls, and crunchy area majority tactics, Hell Raisers in Kanawha County expands Wehrlegig’s catalog of interactive historical games into their first title on American history with period artwork and thematic historical flavor text.

Designed by Maltilda Simonsson (Turncoats, Pax Penning) and Luke Evison and featuring development from Joe Schmidt and Drew Wehrle, Hell Raisers in Kanawha County has been a team collaboration with creative director Cole Wehrle since it debuted at the 2022 CONSIM Game Jam.
