Unboxing Sentinels Affiliation for Marvel Crisis Protocol!

"All threats to humanity have been terminated."

A photo of the Sentinel Affiliation pack for Marvel Crisis Protocol

An absolute yes in my book is X-Men from the 90s. And X-Men from the 90s includes the terrifying Sentinels. Giant robots created for the sole purpose of destroying mutants by Bolivar Trask (boo that man), the X-Men have squared off against them in many forms, but for today, Atomic Mass Games sent out the Affiliation Pack of Sentinels, which includes one Sentinel Prime, two of the MK4s, and a surprising addition, Cassandra Nova, another villain of the X-Men. Let’s dig in.

In the box, you’ll get all 4 models, the character cards, and the team tactics cards for the Sentinel affiliation! As usual, the models are wonderfully designed, and in the case of the Sentinels, there are multiple posing options, alongside some awesome damaged parts for the Sentinel Prime.

Putting these models together was effortless. It’ll take you the entire series finale of Euphoria to build this set.

If you need help assembling models, we’ve put together a fantastic resource, so check it out.

Once the models are built, let’s dive into the cards.

First are the basic Mk4 Sentinels, which you get two in the pack. At 4 threat and a Size of 5, these are hulking and affordable for your squad. Their builder power, Plasma Blast, causes a potential of 5 damage but can go up to 7 if you have the power to pay for it. If you roll a wild, you can spend some power to use Suppression Protocols, which will help add a status to a defender.

What I will focus on is using the Restraint Cables, which will push an opponent to the Sentinel. With the superpowers consisting of power generation every round, the ability to not be pushed or advanced by mystical powers, and the ability to just stomp on size 2 terrain features, these robots are gonna be great at controlling the battlefield.

However, I feel like you can always use more, so the Prime Mk4 steps up. A bigger model by comparison, this threat 5 monster comes with similar powers (like Plasma Blast), but just does more damage!  It also includes a leadership power, Mutant Hunters, which allows your allies to gain power based on the threat level of the enemy. The other cool power here is Pattern Analysis, which uses up to 3 Power to allow you to reroll dice. Great for last second chances.

With both Sentinels, I really like the flavor of the damaged side. The Prime gets Overloading Power Core, which allows you to gain more energy at the risk of damage during the Power Phase. The normal Sentinel only gains 1 power vs 2, but that makes sense. We can’t just overpower everyone else on the field.

Psionic Bolt to gain power, Mind Possession to move defenders, and Flesh Manipulation to cause a more explosive push, hurting opponents while creating room.

In her superpowers column, she can cause Root and Slow conditions on an opponent; she can cause instant damage when an opponent comes within 3 of her via Psychic Distraction; and because she has a Telepathic Cloak, in order to be targeted, the enemy needs to be within 3.

So for her, I would use her to push enemies around, cause statuses, and generally use her to keep my opponent off the objectives, which will be covered in Sentinels anyway.

In the team Tactic Card area, this box comes with 5 Sentinel affiliated cards (which means you need more than 50% Sentinels in your party), and one Unaffiliated card specifically for Cassandra. The ones I really like are Efficient Machines, which allows Sentinels to count defense rolls as wild results, Online and Operational, which allows an instant heal for the Prime Mk4, and Under Your Skin, which changes another model in your party into a Sentinel, which means they get the affiliation bonus, flight, and immunity! I’m immediately looking at my Thanos model and imagining him as a Sentinel.

This set rules. I’m really happy to have added them to my collection, and can’t wait to get them painted up. Stick with Gaming Trend to see the results!
