X-Chair X2 K-Sport Mesh Office Chair review — Your back will thank you

I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to chairs, I’m not that well-versed in the specifics of what separates one from the other. I’ve always looked for chairs to just provide, what I believe, is their core reason for existing – a comfortable place to sit when needed. Sure, if I can get additional bells and whistles for a good price, then that’s a plus, but ultimately, I spend a lot of time stuck to a chair while staring aimlessly at a computer, so comfort is king. While for a review that may limit the scope of the technical aspects I can knowledgeably speak about, I also believe that what the average consumer wants to know essentially boils down to one question: is a chair comfortable? So, I’ll spare you the suspense – at least in regard to the X-Chair X2 K-Sport Management Chair, the answer is an unequivocal yes. In fact, the X2 may be one of the most comfortable chairs I’ve ever owned.

The fact that the X-Chair X2 is comfortable really comes as no surprise as X-Chair is no stranger to the highly competitive office and gaming chair market, having released quality office accessories for quite some time.  A quick glance at their website showcases an incredible variety of high-quality chairs, sure to make even the pickiest of chair aficionados (do chair aficionados exist?) happy. I quickly homed in on the X2 K-Sport Management Chair for one specific reason – it is nearly all mesh. This is important because I have cats and they take immense pleasure in destroying absolutely everything they set their beady little eyes on. It’s almost as if there is a contest amongst the cats; the more a product costs, the more clout the cat who destroys it obtains. I’ve been through quite a few chairs before ultimately realizing that while it may not allow for the unique designs that some other chairs have, mesh is the material most likely to survive a cat attack.

Let’s start with the basics: The X-Chair X2 K-Sport Mesh Management Office Chair (sheesh, that’s a mouthful) can be slightly customized when ordering via the website, and for reference I received the X2 in the Black K-Sport coloring, along with a headrest, ELEMAX Cooling/Heat/Massage, with standard 4D arms, standard 19.5” seat, non-locking black wheels, and in the “some assembly required” packaging.  There are a few more seat, armrest, wheel, and color options to choose from, along with the option to receive the product fully assembled (for a fee). To get the most bang for your buck, I’d highly suggest splurging on the headrest and ELEMAX add-ons, both of which are often offered for free during promotions, but in my opinion really help the chair remain comfortable throughout long durations. The ELEMAX especially is an ingenious add-on which helps elevate an already fantastic chair into must-buy territory.

I have subtle back problems, not enough to incapacitate me, but enough that sitting tends to get uncomfortable quickly so finding a chair tends to be a frustrating chore. Thankfully, the X2 has fantastic lumbar support thanks to their Dynamic Variable Lumbar (DVL) system, which kept my back supported and actively kept the pain at bay even during long stints in front of a computer screen. I can’t vouch for how well the lumbar support may help others, but I found the sturdy, curved mesh backing created a perfect support system that never became irritating and actually helped calm the fidgeting I tend to do when sitting for long durations.

It helps that the X2 is built using X-Chair’s SciFloat Infinite Recline, which allows you to slide both the chair and back support at the same time, providing a satisfying recline which doesn’t sacrifice the previously praised back support. The SciFloat Infinite Recline intends to provide the user with the ability to remain in motion throughout the day, which is claimed to help increase blood flow and focus.

Adding to the comfort is the K-Sport’s Flex Mesh technology, which doesn’t feel soft and easily ripped like most lower quality mesh. Instead, from the moment you first sit down you can feel the difference that high-quality, tightly woven material creates, leading to an extremely sturdy, yet still flexible, mesh backing and seat. An added benefit to mesh is the pass through of air, which helps prevent the backing and seat from increasing in temperature during long gaming or work sessions. My office tends to run hot, so having breathable mesh fabric is a must to prevent further discomfort.

I previously mentioned recommending the headrest and ELEMAX as add-ons. The headrest provides fantastic support and takes only a few seconds to install. The headrest is composed of the same fantastic mesh material as the rest of the chair, providing a soft, yet durable support for your head. Additionally, the headrest can be tilted slightly to help find the perfect angle.

As for the ELEMAX, it is a marvel for office chairs and a feature that now that I am used to using it, it’s going to be hard to justify ever purchasing a chair without it in the future. The ELEMAX slides directly into the back of the chair in the curvature of the lower back and blends in perfectly, not interfering with the style of the chair or drawing attention to itself. With a simple push of a button, you can turn on air, heat, or massage functions. The ELEMAX is extremely simple to use, with only three buttons. One button controls the massage function, which has a low intensity mode, a high intensity mode, and the ability to pulse. A second button turns the heat on, which provides a subtle, yet nice warmth to the lower back portion of the chair. Finally, a third button turns on the fans, which blow through the mesh fabric and create a nice, subtle breeze to further cool users down during intense gaming sessions or on a hot day. The ELEMAX has quite a long battery life which will last for multiple weeks with short term usage each day, but, when necessary, it can be charged via the provided charging cable in a matter of hours.

I only have one complaint about the ELEMAX and that is that it is quite difficult to operate when already in a sitting position. You will most likely have to get up and set the chair to your desired preferences before sitting back down as the other option is to fumble blindly behind your back. It can be done but is more hassle than it is worth. A remote control would have been useful, but really, getting up to adjust settings is a small price to pay for the convenience of the ELEMAX.

Now let’s quickly cover other aspects of the X2, including the armrests, base, wheels, and specifications. The armrests are comfortable, featuring soft padding and the ability to raise and lower. For those who prefer more flexible armrests, X-Chair does offer an FS 360 rotational armrest for an additional fee. The base is made of high-quality aluminum which feels quite sturdy. The non-locking wheels provide a smooth glide across both vinyl flooring and carpet. There is an option to add locking wheels if you’d prefer.  The X2 has a height range between 46.5” and 56.5”, has a width of 25.25”, and a depth of 28”. The seat height is adjustable and ranges between 16.75” and 20.75” and has a width of 19.5”, though for an additional fee you can extend that to 21.75”. The chair itself weighs 52.5lbs and has a weight capacity of 275lbs. You can pay extra to have the chair arrive fully assembled, but I’d highly suggest handling the assembly yourself as it takes only ten minutes or so and is extremely simple. In my video below I walk through all assembly steps.

Unboxing and Assembly - X-Chair X2 K-Sport Mesh Management Office Chair W/ Elemax

Of course, a chair of this quality does come with a price tag that some may find a bit hefty and varies depending on the add-ons you choose, but the exact build I am reviewing sits right around $835.00 currently. I do imagine that the chair will last for quite a few years, even with heavy use, making the price worth it for most. With a hefty price tag comes an incredible warranty though (at least when purchased via the official website or through an official dealer/retailer), providing five years replacement on all parts and materials due to defects in material or workmanship and a staggering 15 years for all non-moving metal components, such as the frame.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the X-Chair X2 K-Sport Mesh Management Office Chair. Not only is the chair comfortable while providing fantastic back support, but its breathable mesh is also relatively safe from my cats’ inherent need for destruction. Factor in the ELEMAX and X-Chair has created a chair that is suitable for both intense gaming sessions and long days in the office. I highly recommend giving X-Chair a chance when you next find yourself looking for a chair.
