When I took over the top Tabletop spot at GamingTrend 8 years ago, I experimented with a lot of different types of coverage. One of the more successful experiments was unboxing videos, which we called ‘What’s in the Box?’, with the name cheekily referencing the iconic scene at the end of the movie Se7en:

After doing about 6 or 7 of these videos, I decided to tackle unboxing the entire 12 box all-in Kickstarter for the Horizon: Zero Dawn boardgame, which utterly killed my taste for unboxings for years to come. The shoot took multiple days, I never knew how exhausting unboxing that many minatures would be! Here, almost an hour long of watching me fumble on camera and unboxing a game I ultimately didn’t care much for, though the miniatures were quite good. Once I realized that I wasn’t likely to get around painting every miniature I own and my love for the video game was decidedly not going to transfer over to the table, I eventually sold off all 12 boxes. I did not back the sequel board game.
Fast forward to the present, and with a new channel launch I thought it might be fun to revisit this video series! People love unboxing videos, am I right? I went to go watch some unboxing videos on Youtube and discovered something crucial.
