I’m going to date myself here, but I remember when touch lamps were considered the pinnacle of technology. No longer did you need to flail around in the dark looking for a small chain to pull, but simply tap the lamp base and voilà - light! Of course, we’ve come a long way since then and thanks to the widespread use of LEDs we’ve been able to produce lamps that would have blown my mind as a child. One such lamp is the Lepro AI Smart LED Table Light which features a fantastic blend of intricate design, easily customizable lighting effects, and subtle use of AI to allow this lamp to blend in or stand out in any environment.

Lepro currently has two of these table lights available, but I picked up the TB2, which is shaped like a treble clef musical note, allowing it to blend in perfectly with the music nook in my house. The TB2 stands 15.7” tall and 7.4” wide, features 152 RGB+IC customizable LED lights, voice control via Alexa or through Lepro’s app, AI which can choose lighting effects based on voice prompts, the ability to sync to music, and the ability to create your own custom lighting patterns.

Assembly is easy and involves only three pieces: the base, the spiral, and the power supply. All you need to do is merely insert the spiral piece into the base and then insert the power supply and you’re ready to go! Out of the box the light will turn on and work but will be stuck on a basic lighting scheme. To really utilize the Lepro AI Smart LED Table Light’s features and to take advantage of the thousands of different lighting patterns available you need to download the Lepro app and set up an account.

Provided you have even a basic Wi-Fi connection, downloading the app will take merely seconds. Account setup is simple, asking only a few questions before allowing you to create a username and password. Once your account is ready to go you must then choose to add your item, done via simply finding your product from the provided list of pictures or via its product name - in this case the TB2. Once you choose your item the connection process will begin. To connect you will need to allow access to both your Wi-Fi and bluetooth, though bluetooth can be turned off once the connection is fully established. A quick note, the table light can only connect via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but if you have a dual 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz connection available the light should have no problem connecting.

Once connected the sky’s the limit, as this lamp can handle essentially any lighting task assigned to it. From lights chasing themselves across the lamp, to a steady and dull light for relaxation, to a cavalcade of colors for a party - it’s all as simple as a press of a button. From the app you can turn the lamp off and on, choose from thousands of pre-programmed lighting patterns, save patterns as favorites for quick access later, or even use AI to choose a pattern for you.

Now, I know AI isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but its use here is unintrusive and basic, and can be ignored altogether if you so choose. To use it you simply press the mic button and state how you feel, and AI will match your mood with a lighting scheme and will also provide you with a long list of similar lighting schemes in case you don’t jive with the theme it first chose. For example, you can say “I feel happy” and the lamp will turn to a bright and colorful pattern, whereas saying “I feel angry” will turn the lamp to a dark red and pulsating pattern. It’s simple, and the patterns it chooses aren’t always what I feel would go with the emotion I stated, but it works well enough and I enjoyed being given the additional list of patterns to scroll through and test out.

If you enjoy your lighting syncing to your music, then you’re in luck as this lamp is able to do so via two methods.  The simplest is to simply utilize the lamp’s built-in mic, which is located in the lamp’s base, and pick a music sync appropriate lighting pattern. Alternatively, you can utilize your phone's mic and bluetooth to allow the lights to react to whatever your phone is playing. Both methods work fine, with the lamp’s built-in mic working well for sources of music which are nearby and the phone working well if you are further away from the lamp itself.

I’ve used a variety of smart lights in the past and have found that the apps to control these lights are hit and miss, making even the coolest products frustrating at best. Thankfully, the Lepro app, at least during my time testing it, has had zero connectivity or control issues. In fact, the app works so well that I have been looking into Lepro’s other products to potentially replace some of my current lighting schemes.

There are a million lamp choices available, but Lepro’s AI Smart LED Table Light is quite impressive and would look great in any setting. I highly recommend checking out Lepro’s table light line if you’re looking for an easy-to-use, highly customizable, and relatively cheap lighting option.
