More details have been revealed for the long-awaited giant robot action game, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, in a new teaser trailer highlighting the satisfaction of destroying everything in your path.
In the trailer, there are three types of destruction featured: Mech damage, environment damage, and enemy AI damage. During the game, mechs can be damaged in various parts including limbs and being damaged in these spots can affect how well you and your mech perform on the battlefield. Not only can environments be damaged, but they can cause damage as well such a hot planet causing quick-to-overheat mechs to deal less damage to their opponents. Of course, in an urban environment, a skyscraper can be destroyed if you desire to take it out. Finally, enemy AI will take damage similarly to how your mech takes damage as damaging them requires precise aiming to hit the sweet spots.
While there has been damage of sorts featured in past MechWarrior games, none have extended the destructibility feature to the extent of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. And having played various builds of the game to date, I can attest that blowing shit up in a giant robot FEELS REALLY FREAKING GOOD.
In addition to the new information on MechWarrior 5, there is more information on the Solaris patch hitting MechWarrior Online later this week. This update will bring expansion-level content to the game. Solaris 7 turns pilots into gladiators, putting 1v1 or 2v2 battles on for spectators as the mechs annihilate each other for glory, currency, and reputation.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is the first single player MechWarrior game in nearly two decades. It will be released later this year. For more information, visit the official website.
