Marathon planning for the long haul

Lining out a gameplan for sustainability

Marathon planning for the long haul

The Marathon team announced future plans for the game's direction today in a long post on X. There were a few major takeaways from the announcement for fans who are interested.

While the PvEvP experience the game launched with is the soul of the game, the team wants to give players more ways to engage with the world. They mention planning to build a series of modes including PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences with varying intensities, commitments, and crew sizes.

As for upcoming milestones to be mindful of, they had the following:

  • October: Nightfall Refresh – This month's changes will be designed to improve the experience while the team prepares for the future
  • December: Symbiosis – Marathon will get a dedicated PvE experience, Team Deathmatch mode, a new shell to play as, and more
  • March: Marathon's Evolution – This is the big milestone they're pushing toward. It will include new alien combatants, a new zone, deeper progression, and a host of interconnected modes across the spectrum (PvE, PvP, PvPvE)

While we enjoyed our time with Marathon early on, the game hasn't caught fire the way they were hoping, so it's encouraging to see the dev team fighting to make it a long-term experience they want to share with the world.

What do you think? Are you interested in seeing what they can do to bring more players to Tau Ceti IV?
