Any Sonic superfans got some spare cash lying around? Then you don't want to miss this way-past-cool deal: Sega and iam8bit are collaborating to re-release Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Sega Genesis! Priced at 99$ each, the Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Cartridge Collection sells both games separately, with pre-orders currently available on iam8bit's site for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Respectively sporting translucent blue and orange cartridges, these Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cartridges come packaged with the classic clamshell packaging and full-color instruction booklets with restored artwork and a new foreword. Just like old times!

Furthermore, 1 in 8 cartridges will come infused with so-called "Chaos Emerald energy"; in other words, they'll glow just like those mystical gems. Fancy your changes to turn Super Sonic?

Do note that a) Only two cartridges are available per customer, and b) These cartridges are only supported on NTSC consoles; in other words, Sega Genesis/Mega Drives hailing from America and Japan. Sorry, Europe!

The first wave of cartridges is set to arrive Q3 2026, with the second in Q4 2026 and the third in Q1 2027.

Be sure to watch the Sonic's Birthday Livestream for further announcements! Of course, GamingTrend will keep you updated with the latest Sonic updates.
