Fable: The Journey to use Unreal Engine 3, Kinect

Lionhead Studios is unveiling more details about the development of the rail-shooter spinoff of their popular Fable franchise, including the fact that it’ll be built on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3.

“In using the Unreal Engine with its excellent tools for crafting cinematic in-game experiences, it allows our developers to focus on the quality and uniqueness of ‘Fable: The Journey,'” said Peter Molyneux, creative director of Lionhead Studios and Microsoft Game Studios Europe. “Already we are seeing a more beautiful, vivid and unique world full of dramatic moments and have crafted new, never seen before gameplay experiences.”

The announcement also confirms gesture and voice-based interaction through the Kinect.  A rail-shooter in the style of Time Crisis or Dead Space: Extraction, Fable: The Journey is anticipated to be entirely controlled through the peripheral as players use specific hand movement to invoke different spell effects.

No word yet on whether Kinect support will extend to real-time dancing and puppet shows to impress local villagers, but check back for more info as we get it!
