Bubsy: Paws on Fire announced for early next year, will be made by Bit.Trip developers Choice Provisions

In an announcement that seems just as odd as the worlds they create, Choice Provisions has partnered with Accolade to release the next game in the infamous Bubsy series. This game, titled Bubsy: Paws on Fire! will take a departure from the traditional 2D platforming and instead be more like an auto-runner like the Bit.Trip Runner series.

After years of hibernation, Bubsy returned last year with a new entry more faithful to the original games, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. Unfortunately, it was met with negative reception and we all thought that we had seen the last of Bubsy. However, Accolade has decided to breathe new life into the series and handed it to Choice Provisions, who have mastered the art of the auto-runner at this point. It will feature over 100 levels across three worlds, three boss battles, four playable characters with unique mechanics (Bubsy, The Woolie, Arnold, and Virrgil Reality), a combo system and set of leaderboards, a shop with costumes and cosmetics, unique character dialog for every level (what could possibly go wrong?), and a variety of collectibles.

When I told my agent I wanted my next game to be my best yet, he reminded me I was no longer his client and had his number changed. Luckily the suc-… er, developers at Choice Provisions still agreed to partner up with me. It’s amazing what a couple of sharpened claws can get you in this world!

Choice Provisions dug deep into the history of Bubsy as Virgil Reality, one of the four playable characters, was originally from the pilot of the television show that never made it to syndication. In addition, Oinker, Terri, Terry, and other characters from previous Bubsy titles are expected to make an appearance.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire! will be released in Q1 2019 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. For more information, visit the official website.
