This year’s Kinda Funny Showcase at E3 highlighted 60 indie games coming soon to all platforms, and one that caught my eye the most was Lost Ember.
In Lost Ember, you play as a wolf with the ability to transform into a host of other animals as you explore the game’s gorgeous world. On your journey, you’re accompanied by the spirit of one of the people who used to inhabit the planet before a cataclysmic event. Your goal is to explore the world, looking for places where you can see the memories of the lost civilization to piece together what exactly happened to them.
Explore a breathtakingly beautiful world that nature has claimed back from mankind. As a wolf with the power to inhabit and control other animals and with a trusted companion at your side, you’ll discover ruins of long forgotten civilizations and ancient cultures that tell a story of hope, loss, ambition and failure.
It reminds me a bit of Vane, which released earlier this year, in which you transformed between a child and a bird to explore a similarly mysterious world. Lost Ember looks a good deal more ambitious in letting you transform into a whole ecosystem’s worth of creatures.
We won’t have to wait long to see how successful it is. Lost Ember launches July 19 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
A committed indoor kid, Bryan moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles for a prettier landscape to ignore. They can be lured outside with promises of taco trucks and film festivals, and enjoy trawling through used book stores for works on the occult. Bryan has been gaming since the SNES era and is a sucker for good pixel art.
