Aggregate site GameRankings to cease operations Monday, will redirect to Metacritic

For a while, GameRankings and Metacritic were the places to go in order to get an aggregated review for the hottest games. Yesterday, Allen Tyner and Marc Doyle announced that GameRankings will shutter its website this Monday, with the site redirecting to Metacritic after that date.

From the official site announcement:

On Monday, December 9, 2019, www.gamerankings.com will redirect gamers to its sister site Metacritic.com, where they will find a wealth of information about how the latest video game titles are performing among critics. The entire GameRankings.com team will continue our mission to create informative game review content and bring reviews of classic games to Metacritic.

As one of the oldest gaming sites online, we thank you for supporting GameRankings over the past 20 years, and we look forward to conquering new gaming worlds with you for years to come.

Cheers,

Allen Tyner, Lead on GameFAQs & GameRankings

Marc Doyle, Co-founder, Metacritic

Two decades is a very long time in the gaming industry, and we’re sorry to see an aggregate giant go. However, with the closure of GameRankings also comes the success of Opencritic, an aggregate competitor that opened its doors earlier in the decade.
