Let me know if anyone is playing on Xbox 360.  I'd love to get some fireteams going.

Rahxephon - The anime that is like Neon Genesis Evangelion but makes sense.  It takes some time to really come to a boil, but it does it well. (DVD.. if it is out there for streaming I don't know it)

Knight of Sidonia is downright amazing.  It is one of my favorites.  Gonna get the manga series (nine volumes currently in english!!!).  (Netflix)

Watched Kaze no Stigma.  I liked it, but it quickly begins to fall into the aloof main character, tsundere female lead which might be a turn off to some. (Netflix)

Aldnoah.Zero I liked the first two episodes, and can't wait to see the third tonight.

Gatchaman Crowds - Liked what I saw, just hadn't gotten back to it to finish it. (Crunchyroll)

My Crunchyroll queue has Girls und Panzer, Durarara, Xamd, Log Horizon, Majestic Prince, Strike the Blood, and Valerian and Laureline all to watch (I've watched at least one episode of each of them, can't wait to finish them.)

No Game No Life was in there briefly, but the premise of the show rubs me the wrong way.  Can anyone make a good argument to continue watching that one?

Thanks TiLT.  I had gotten that somewhat, but I wanted to be sure it hadn't been some weird hanging plotline.

Did they ever cover the bank robbers who kept getting off scot free at the beginning?  Or did that just get dropped?

I'm surprised how few people I've met from the forums in such a long time.  More of you should come to Gencon in Indy next August slywink

Meeting Hark, Kato, JarrodHK, and Hark's fiancee was the best part of GenCon... admittedly... I was sick most of the weekend.    Wow, ten years?

Can anyone point me to an article or thread that will show me what will carry over to a Vita from my PSP if I upgrade?  I have a bunch of PSOne games, and a couple of PSP games from PSN, and then a bunch of UMDs.

If I don't remeber to take a suppliment or eat a banana on a regular basis (at least one of those a week) over a period of time, my feet and ankles will feel like they've gone cold or numb.  You might try a multivitamin. smile

10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Gen Con Indy 2013 attendance on: August 23, 2013, 11:57:25 PM
It was great seeing you all at the convention.  Kato decided his second half of matches in the BattleTech pods weren't for him, and he graced me with his tickets.  (I'm a gencon newbie, didn't know about tickets until just before Con and didn't budget.)   I managed to rock it in a MAd Cat II and a Vulture, scoring high in all four matches.  I even got to yell 'Damnit Hark' at least once.

Looking forward to next year!

I've only gotten a couple of malware warnings so far.  The sites they link to are pretty...SEO type sites.    I don't think they're doing you any favors (and I've never seen GT's articles anywhere else in those sites.)

Might I ask for some background on this feature that appears on just about every subpage?    I've tried looking at the links given there, but they always go to these somewhat... scummy is the best word I can think of... article aggrigator (sp) sites.  Several times I've gotten various malware from following those links.  Do they help the site in some way?

16  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Mice and Mystics on: December 05, 2012, 06:01:10 PM
Mice and Mystics shares a lot in common with the D&D adventure boxes released in the last two years (Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon, Underdark/Drizzt).  The only major difference is that Mice and Mystics is easier than those three.  In the D&D box games, you can expect to lose a portion of the time.  M&M (after two chapters played) really has to have new to gaming people to lose at it.  This is okay.  It's much easier to teach it to my 7 and 9 year old this way.

To be honest...  I picked it up because I liked the first Redwall book.
17  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Your Boardgame, Card Game and Pen 'n' Paper RPG 2012 GOTYs on: December 05, 2012, 05:55:02 PM
Best board game:

I'm torn between Zombicide and Mice and Mystics.   Zombicide is just too much fun to play, but the solid production values and story behind M&M is really good too.

LttT, but sing it Brother TiLT!

WFRP is one of my favorite tabletop games as well and inspired my own designs (along with Earthdawn and TORG!) and you are exactly right. It is a bit like CoCthulhu in that way. I always loved that the most dangerous enemies you had to deal with in WFRP were almost always PEOPLE. If you ever saw actual monsters, you'd best run like hell.

I've never been into Star Wars tabletop, but you guys bringing up WEG makes me think how cool it would be to adapt the card system from TORG! For Star Wars use. I bet that would be completely awesome.

I had a GM who used the TORG cards in both a Heavy Gear and a WEG Star Wars game. IT was great.  we'd get a couple of cards, at the start of a scene or session, and could use them to boost rolls or events (good and bad) but we had to play them with flourish.  I couldn't just say I was playing a nemesis card for bonus XP.  I had to play it with the story.  Turned some throwaway NPCs into serious bad guys throughout the game that way.  Even got out of sticky situations several times with them too.  Great addition to the games.

Yes to both.  The only downside to respeccing is that your magic item find background boost number which keeps climbing the longer you don't change your abilities will reset.

For you smarter technical folk, is there just some sort of inherent physical bandwidth limit in these types of situations, or is it just a matter of having enough physical servers to handle excess load?  I just find it odd after all these years and all the technological improvements, pretty much every launch with something of a significant size is still a failure.  This is yet another of those cases where they have most of the key variables already known: how many downloads, how many copies out in North America.  There's only so many people in NA that could possibly be trying to logon; just freaking prepare for all of them lol!

Of course I understand the load will decrease over time, but it's still just incredibly annoying when things like this happen, particularly with a big company that's supposed to know how to handle it.

I can think of several things, though I'm going to speak in generalities.

Bandwidth:  Right now, I don't think this is an issue.  Blizz has four major data centers in the US and all of them are in great places for networking (one is here in Dallas I believe on top of a huge fiber ring. smile )  Downloading the client doesn't seem to be an issue.

Processing power: I suspect this is more the issue, not the processor on the hardware, but just the sheer number of database accesses for password, character creates, sessions for play, etc.  I suspect this is current their bottleneck.  Everyone is trying to log in, create a character, and get a session going for play.  That's probably more than even the best of databases could handle (and they aren't all the same physical database either, if they're smart)

Kinda feel bad for Cobie Smulders - before I saw the movie I saw some people say she was pretty wooden, but when I saw the movie, it seemed like she was the only character that didn't really have anything to work with.

Im gonna chance it and say: Is Cobie Smulders the one actress that played Nick Fury's kinda-nameless female agent/assistant? Yeah, she had hardly anything to work with.

I have to say I'm not sure what problem people are having with her.  I thought she was fine.

This. I didn't think she did anything bad per se, but just didn't have much of anything to do except repeat Nick Fury's orders.

Well, there was that walk away from Fury at the end, where the shot just kind of lingered on her... slywink
