I am reminded of one of the first times I played a game with Kato, pretty sure it was the first R6:vegas.  He made a comment about how well I was doing, and I told him it was easy to do that kind of thing in a game, but if I was in a real combat situation I would want him watching my back.

Get well quickly Kato.

Kato is made of steel; I have every confidence that he'll pull through. I mean, come on... how many times were we all down and out in RS:V and we watched him clean up the other 40 terrorists?

(get well soon buddy ... we need you back in one piece!)

Wow, I am glad to hear he will be okay. Thanks for the update Hark.
You know, it doesn't surprise me that he was able to save some people as well.
As I said before, without even meeting him in person, you could tell that's the kind of guy he is

I am glad to hear that he is alive and should be okay.  He has been in our thoughts from the moment he left our shores and will continue to be until he returns home.  Godspeed.

Another brief update:

Things don't look quite as good as they sounded originally.  Kato is in critical condition and is now in the infirmary.  Please keep him in your thoughts.

I'll keep you guys posted if there are any changes.  I should have an update on his condition Fri at the latest.

Perhaps it may seem a little odd, but I've never met Kato in person, and while our interactions have always been virtual, either on the forum or while playing a MP videogame, I've considered him a real-life friend.  For New Year's we were in San Diego and had hopes of meeting up with Kato and his wife while we were in town, but our trip came and went and we never heard back from him.  As this was out of character for Kato we weren't upset or angry, but we were disappointed that we weren't able to meet Kato and Mrs. Kato.  We learned later from a heartfelt personal message that they had a major storm and part of their home's roof collapsed on him and his wife.  Fortunately they were okay, and we of course understood why our plans to meet in San Diego fell through.  It almost made me feel ill to think that we were disappointed with Kato's lack of communication while he and his wife were recovering in a hospital.   icon_redface

When COD4 was released and simply didn't fit into our budget at the time, Kato had accidentally ordered two copies out of pure excitement, and because he wanted so badly for me to be able to play with the group, he sent me his extra copy.  I have Kato to thank for the countless hours of pure frustration fun I had with everyone, especially Kato.

Some may consider it to be a little strange to feel such emotion toward an "anonymous" internet personality, but to me Kato is far from anonymous and I desperately want him to pull though.  Kato, you and your wife and your family are all in our thoughts and Jaime and I want and need you to pull though.  The world wouldn't be the same without you.  And certainly nowhere near as fabulous.  You are an honerable person despite what you may have assumed our impression to be after our failed meeting in San Diego.  Jaime and I along with all of our friends think about you every day.  I don't think I have it in me to give them bad news.  Pull through, dear online friend.  Pull through.

I don't know how realistic an idea this would be, but when Kato returns to the States, and I have full faith that he will, I think it would awesome if we threw a GT 'welcome home' party for him and maybe present him with the loot purchased from the money that's been donated. I know it's expensive to travel these days, but I'd hop on a plane and go without question.

Ditto. I may not see people's faces talking to me here, but they're every bit as personal to me as chatting with people socially.

I also like Jimmy's idea, but financially (and with personal time from work limitations) it wouldn't be feasible for me to just hop on a plane and go. icon_frown

I wasn't necessarily suggesting that Kato is an anonymous personality here on the forums, but I think the general perception by outside observers would be to wonder how people who have never met could have such a familial relationship.

Kato is family, and I was simply trying to illustrate how important even distant friends can be.

Critical condition? He's gotta pull through man. frown He's one of my favorite people to play with; humble and always willing to share his experience, strategy and skills. If he was a neighbor or co-worker, I'm sure I'd be drinking buddies with him.

... and I was just thinking that everytime I hear Disturbed's "Indestructible" I think of Kato.

My guts have been in knots since Harkonis's last update.  I can't tell you how many times my wife turned to me last night and said, "Maybe you should check the forums to see if there's been a new update."  After almost every Rock Band song we played together we'd refresh this thread.

I'm hoping to hear back (with good news) from Kato's wife before Friday.  On Friday my father is going to a nearby base to work and is going to use a secure channel to check on Kato's status in the hospital.  Nothing we can do right now but be optimistic, hopeful and pray.

Kato is one tough MF and I'm sure he'll pull through this.  Remember him playing on Live with his hand all cut up despite the pain?  He can take it.

Kato's been upgraded to fair condition and it looks like he'll survive.  Not sure the extent of any permanent damage yet.

He's also already asked about Warhammer Online and my plans on that so I'd say it's good 'ol Kato.  More when I get a chance.

BUD LIGHTS ALL AROUND IN HONOR OF KATO!

In terms of any permanent damage, when I told my wife last night about Kato's improvement she had a look of much-needed relief, but when I mentioned that there still wasn't any word of any lasting problems or effects due to the damage to his arm she quickly got wide-eyed and said, "But what about videogames!  I hope his arm's okay.  I bet he's wishing he would have hurt his leg instead."

And when I mentioned making a trip to California to welcome Kato back home she responded with, "Absolutely!  You're not going to get to go by yourself.  He's my friend, too.  I'm coming.  And so are Knightshade and Laura."

So apparently Knightshade and Laura are coming too.   ninja
