Uh... $59.99 is about $10 more than your average PC game on release. In fact, I haven't seen many PC games come out for more than $49.99 in a while (Battle from the Bulge not included).

Anyway, can anyone in beta confirm the system reqs? I'm painfully afraid that my modest system (listed below) won't run Starcraft II very well. And the last thing I want is to drop some coin on something that I can't run!

nVidia 8600M 256MB

Yes, but that shouldn't be overly problematic, if the Requirements are accurate. I'm pretty much in between requirements and recommendations.

But to be specific, it is a Dell XPS laptop, if there are reports of SC2 not playing nice with lappys. Being that the game targets the Korean market, I can't think they would make it hard for lappys to play.

You must have the same laptop I do, a XPS M1530:

I was in the beta and it ran fine on lowish settings.  Still looked decent.

Yeah, mine is a XPS 1530, but I think I upped the RAM and got a bit lower CPU than you (wish I had gotten top-of-the-line for longevity).

Good to know it does run and still looks decent. I always turn shadows off, because they eat resources and don't provide any sort of gameplay benefit (and I get distracted by them). I also don't much care for Bloom filters (looks like Vaseline on the screen), so those can go too.

I'm going to seriously think about pre-ordering then, if it is runnable on a comparable system. Thanks, KePoW!

I mean, c'mon, Bill Roper made his mark working on Starcraft. So there's gotta be an SC2 discount for Ron's HG Lifetime, right? There's no justice in the world...  

Best Buy is pelting my e-mail inbox with SC2 pre-order offers but guess what, BB? I suck at RTSs. I did in the mid 1990s and it's only worse now. I'll wait for Diablo 3 (which will presumably release when Hell Freezes Over^TM) to start giving Blizzard my money again.

I do agree, I hope there's maybe at least a multiplayer demo at some point. Co-op SC2 is probably the one thing I might do well enough at to enjoy.

Yeah, in that case it'll run fine.

As long as you don't turn on AA, you might be able to run it at medium or above-medium settings even (if you turn shadows off).  Should look pretty good in that case.

I can't test it anymore because I got a new powerhouse desktop system a few weeks ago, and moved all my gaming to that.  But you should be fine.

I played the crap outta the beta. This game is finely polished RTS goodness in such a finely compacted, solid, and balanced manner. I was addicted till they flipped it off last week. I still sneak in a bit of scrims versus AI every day or so, though.

you don't have to give out your real name, unlike in wow(why the fuck they did this in wow is unbelievable. talk about hackers paradise). you just need the bnet account and the name

mine was jersoc.jersoc, which is all you would see. if i gave you my bnet email address then you would see the full name.


unless this changed, i don't know. i suck ass at rts games and barely played the beta.

The single player campaign should be super, and as far as multi-play, it'll be neato to play with fellow GTers. Plus, it's been ten years in the making. As a PC gamer, I don't want to miss on that.

As far as I can tell you only need to give out your real name if you decide to use RealID and if you want to post on the official forums, both of which are optional.  It still blows, and as far as I'm concerned unnecessary to achieve their goals, but there you have it.  I plan on getting SC2 and Cataclysm but I won't be using any functionality that asks for my real name.  And frankly as a huge Blizzard supporter and fan I'm starting to get a little concerned about the direction of their business ethics.
