I apologize if I missed any news about this, but I happened to find myself at the Magic the Gathering homepage and discovered that they are coming out with a game for the 360.  It is called Duels of the Planeswalkers - just like the old microprose game.  You can play in single player campaigns, two player co-op campaigns ( two headed giant ), and against others.  I guess you get cards by playing the campaigns, not sure on the details.  This http://www.wizards.com/magic/digital/article.aspx?x=mtg/digital/duels/whatis is the only information I've seen so far, but haven't searched any deeper yet.

Are we talking a LIVE Arcade game, or a full game?  Because if this is a 800 points kind of thing, I'd definitely try it.  Always been somewhat interested in Magic, but never got into it.

The demo video on the page looks nice.  I'd play that, even if I did have to 'buy' boosters.  I've been looking forward to this one.

I haven't played MTG in years, but I would totally pick this up on arcade as a cheap way to play some again.

I thought they said that the XBLA MTG game wasn't going to be the card game, but some other type of game set in the MTG universe.

Does anyone know whether this game will have deck building involved or whether it will be a set number of predesigned decks you get to choose from? I'm guessing the latter, which makes the purchase less exciting but still probably a buy for me.

That would really, really, REALLY suck, as making your own deck is the entire point of a CCG.

I can probably count the number of times I've played MTG on 2 hands, but I'll be at least downloading the trial with the likelihood of purchasing it. Besides, anyone who can figure out how to survive as a video game developer on the Isle of Wight more or less earns my support. slywink

The deck-building question is my main holdout right now. IGN's hands on preview didn't seem sure how that was going to be working...

The original press release made it sound like it wouldn't be the card game, but I guess they realized that was a dumb idea slywink

According to one of the videos on the page I linked, it was said that you collect cards by beating the different planeswalkers within the campaign.  Though perhaps you collect decks?  I hope it is the former.  It probably won't be like the Microprose version, but one can hope it gets close smile
