TGIF: Gaming Trend’s Weekend Lineup

Now that we’ve eaten about as much turkey and pumpkin pie as we can handle, watched as much football as John Madden, and spent a ton of quality time with our families. It’s time to get back to the important things–spending quality time with our video games. Seeing as how it is Black Friday, I’m sure everyone has already bought their early Christmas presents for themselves, so why not crack those bad boys open and get to playing. There is no shortage of great games to play over the long weekend. Here’s what the GT staffers are playing.

Josh Devlin, Reporter

It is a busy weekend for me, as I’d expect it is or most. With family in town and a bachelor party on Saturday night, there might not be a ton of time for video games. I will do my best to get in as much gaming as possible. Probably plug away at some more Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and pregame before the bachelor party with some Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. I also just got my Xbox One, so I’m super excited to get into that and play Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Sunset Overdrive.

Yup, it’s Thanksgiving, and all through the house, food comas will be had and games will be played. I just recently got the Jackbox Party Pack – a set of games from the makers of You Don’t Know Jack, but they all allow players to use their phones as controllers. We’ve already had a few family rounds of Fibbage and Drawful, and I can’t recommend the Jackbox enough to people who entertain.

After the turkey, I’ll be heading out for Black Friday with a goal to pick up all the early-year releases I missed. GOTY talk is rolling around, and while I won’t be able to play them all (one day I’ll finish out my console trinity with a Wii U), I do know of some deals I’ll definitely go for. Infamous: Second Son, Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition and a few others are all on my radar.

Three words, ladies and gents:
Dragon Age: Inquisition

I’ve already played and beaten Inquisition, but the game still has a hold on me. I can’t bring myself to play any other games but I’m not emotionally ready to replay Inquisition. Even so, Inquisition’s all I want to think and talk about these days. I’ve already gotten some of my appreciation for the game out in a piece about my favorite party member in the game (which you can read here), but I’m still itching to talk about what I experienced, and can’t really commit to playing anything else without feeling like I’m forcing myself. Look for our spoilercast in the near future.

When I manage to push myself into playing something else, it’s typically a few rounds of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. My Pikachu game is still strong. Down+B, everyone. Down+B.

On December 5, 1986, Josh was born into this world pink-faced and squalling. His only thoughts were, "WHAT IS GOING ON? WHO ARE ALL OF THESE PEOPLE? AND WHY THE HELL AM I NAKED?" 19 years later he bought an Xbox 360 and now plays and writes about video games. Life is funny that way.
