Lorcana Collector Set review — A Costco exclusive just in time for the holidays

Just in time for the holiday rush, everyone's favorite warehouse has the perfect Lorcana gift set. The Costco exclusive Collector set features a Villain themed card portfolio, a glimmer foil promo of The Queen, and six 1st Chapter booster packs.

Let’s dig in a little deeper. The card portfolio features six classic Disney villains: The Queen, Gaston, Maleficent, Hook, Ursula, and Scar. The portfolio holds 252 cards in side-loaded sleeves to prevent cards from spilling out easily if the portfolio is tipped upside down. It also features an elastic band to keep it closed, but it is still open on the sides. It’s not as secure as a zipper binder, but it's a great way to display your favorite cards or a growing collection.

The Glimmer Foil promo card is, of course, subjective. Personally, I find the glitter foil effect muddies the card art too much, but it does make the card stand out as something special. Promo cards are always fun to collect and play with, so your deck stands out from the crowd. Even if the glimmer foil effect isn’t my favorite, I’m glad to see a promo included in the set.

Finally, we have the six 1st Chapter boosters. If you are new to Lorcana, that won’t mean much to you. If you’ve been around a while, you will know that the 1st Chapter can be pretty hard to find nowadays. Since this is a Collector Set, I think these packs make this a really enticing box to pick up. You can decide if you want to crack them open and pop the cards in the portfolio or maybe even keep them sealed as a true collector's item. It’s worth noting for those that are new to the game, 1st Chapter cards have been rotated out of competitive play, so keep that in mind if you are planning to take these cards to your local store for any official tournament events. 

Overall, I think this is a great set to pick up as a holiday gift. It’s great for introducing someone to the game for the first time and getting them excited about it with some extra goodies like the portfolio and promo card. It’s also a great gift from someone who already loves the game and would appreciate the collector aspect of this box. You really can’t go wrong with it.
