This Is Not Arkham City Concept Art

No, this is the real thing: a physical, wearable replica of the Batsuit worn by the Caped Crusader in his latest video game outing.  It seems the team of special effects wizards at XworkZ studios are so enamored with Rocksteady Studios’ treatment of the franchise — and its potential for the future — they were inspired to test their skills at bringing the iconic costume to life.  How accurate is it?  Comics Alliance took the initiative to interview team leader Lisa Alvarez for their excellent article on the challenges of bringing a purely digital creation into the real world.

We wanted to achieve the right colors and needed them to change dramatically from one light source to another, like the game suit does. Especially the new game where you see a brighter blue cowl in one light and then a seemingly black cowl in another. This went for the gray also as it needed to go dark and also reflect the greens that they used in the game. The whole suit is weathered to match the grittiness of the game suit and made to be worn.

Lisa Alvarez makes me feel colorblind.  I’ve seen a whole lot of Batman over the last week and it never once occurred to me how his cowl subtly changes color based on the light.  Even if I had, I would have assumed the game designers had the luxury of fudging things to suit the situation, but a look through the pictures at the Comics Alliance site shows the XworkZ team pulled it off.
