Strategy RPG and platforming collide in the cyberpunk samurai game, Midnight Wave

Today, Walthall Studios announced Midnight Wave, a strategy RPG game with platforming elements that combinesa retro cyberpunk aesthetic with samurai action. The game has already attracted a voice-talent cast from games such as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Street Fighter, and more.

“Midnight Wave was born from what-ifs,” comments lead developer Andrew Walthall. “What if we mashed up gameplay from classics like Fire Emblem and Super Smash Bros.? What if we added in narrative choices from games like Mass Effect? We took those what-ifs and ran with them, and now we’re creating an RPG like no other! Midnight Wave is easily the most ambitious project any of us have worked on.”

Midnight Wave will feature an overhead strategy RPG map layout, but when you encounter an enemy, it will become a side-scrolling duel in a way to remove RNG percentages. It will also feature narrative choices, diverse characters, customizable characters, and elemental combat.

Midnight Wave’s Kickstarter is currently live as the team hopes to raise $47,337 by November 22nd, 2018. If successful, it’s expected to be released sometime next year. For more information, visit the official website.
