Today, Nintendo announced that it will be holding two special tournaments during E3, a special Splatoon 2 World Championship and an invitational for the recently announced Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo Switch.
Prior to the Splatoon 2 World Championship, players will have a chance to compete in online qualifiers using the Battlefy app. The first qualifier round will be held on April 21st, 2018 at 11am and will be using single elimination and Turf War in its ruleset. The top 8 players will then participate in the finals on April 28th, 2018 in a double elimination, Ranked Battle ruleset. The winning team will be sent to E3 to participate in the Splatoon 2 World Championship where three other teams from Japan, Europe, and Australia will compete against them to claim the title of champion squid squad. For more information on how to enter, visit the battlefy website.
In addition to the Splatoon 2 World Championship, Nintendo will be hosting another Super Smash Bros. Invitational at E3, this time using the recently announced Nintendo Switch game. Like in 2014 with the Super Smash Bros. for WiiU Invitational, the challengers for this Super Smash Bros. Invitational will be, of course, invited. There will hopefully be more information on this title as E3 and challengers as we approach E3 on June 12th, 2018.
