No backwards compatibility for Xbox One

Xbox OneIt wasn’t mentioned in the recently concluded reveal, but we now have an answer on backwards compatibility for the Xbox One: “Nope!” Microsoft Xbox Live VP Marc Whitten has confirmed to The Verge that the new Microsoft console will have no backwards compatibility at all with Xbox 360 games. This isn’t a big surprise; the PlayStation 4 will also lack direct backwards compatibility, although some PS3 titles may be made available for download or re-released.

“The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn’t really work from that perspective.” Whitten said when asked about backwards compatibility.  He also made clear that Microsoft doesn’t view the Xbox One as a replacement for its predecessor, saying “This isn’t about getting rid of the Xbox 360”. The Xbox One is expected to be released sometime later this year.

Breanna has been gaming since infancy, if gnawing on an unattended controller counts as playing a game. One of the younger members of the Gaming Trend family, she dabbled in PC games as a kid but wasn't fully consumed by the hobby until the sixth generation of consoles. Now an avid PC and console gamer, she looks forward to the day when she can scape together enough cash to join the next gen club.

In the last week of middle school, a math teacher taught her how to program a calculator; she was pretty much hooked then and there. Currently working towards a degree in Computer Science and Applied Math, Breanna hope to someday make games instead of just writing about them. Other hobbies include playing guitar, binge-watching Netflix, and cooking delicious food.
