If there was a rebooted franchise that had everyone on their feet during E3, it was Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist. The game has taken a step back, brought back skills fans loved, and reinvigorated what we loved about the original series back when it debuted on the original Xbox. Today we have some new screens and video from the GamesCom event in Cologne, Germany for you to check out. If you’ve missed our continued coverage of the title, here is a little bit about the game:
Available in spring 2013, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist will deliver a gripping modern-day special-ops storyline with a new level of technical innovation and quality. The game will include an arsenal of new gadgets and reinvented classic weapons as well as a new “Killing-in-Motion” mechanic which allows players to move efficiently through the environment while taking out enemies quickly and fluidly.
Players take on the role of lethal operative Sam Fisher who has been given the power to act above the law to stop an international terrorist group behind “The Blacklist,” a series of escalating attacks on U.S. assets. Operating under the newly-formed Fourth Echelon unit, Sam and his team will infiltrate terrorist cells and use any means necessary to prevent the next deadly assault.
The “Killing in Motion” mechanic is a fantastic evolution of the mark and execute system we’ve seen in titles past. Add in bringing back the knife, being able to call in airstrikes, and all the gadgets we know and love, and you’ve got a recipe for success. Check out the lone screenshot to go with the screens we posted two days ago, as well as a new video that shows the Gamescom demo with comments from the development team. Couldn’t be more excited!
Look for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist in early 2013 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
