Did you feel the disturbance in the force? Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct looked as if it was set to conclude with the announcement that Isabelle, the popular new character who has become the face of the Animal Crossing series, was to make her debut appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is set for a Nintendo Switch switch on December 7th. The reaction among Animal Crossing fans was a mixture of both delight and disappointment; while there was no doubt fans were excited to see the adorable Shih Tzu in Smash, it simply wasn’t the announcement they were hoping for.
June marked the five year anniversary of the North American release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which was the last major game in the series. It’s no surprise that fans have been itching for a new town to call home. Many have been anticipating an announcement since the Animal Crossing website incident back in April, but E3 came and went without any news. Just as all hope seemed to fade, fans found themselves staring furry mug of Tom Nook, the infamously greedy and almost universally despised landlord of the Animal Crossing world, who had a little something to say.
Excitement was palpable across social media. At long last, the beloved simulation game would have a home on their Switch. Check out some of our favorite reactions!
