Yesterday in a surprise Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed a new game in the Star Fox series, simply titled Star Fox, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th, 2026. This title is once again based on Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64, with the Star Fox Team once again asked to save the Lylat System from the evil Dr. Andross. Players can experience new gameplay modes along with returning ones as they pilot their Arwings across various levels like Corneria and Sector Z. You can watch the full presentation below.
Star Fox is a cinematic take on Star Fox 64, with new character designs and detailed cutscenes with full voice acting and an orchestral soundtrack. The game gives more detail on the fight to save Lylat, with more character interactions and even a prologue showing how Fox's father, James McCloud, went missing years prior.
Players can also engage in 4-vs-4 multiplayer mayhem in Battle Mode, either locally online and even using GameChat with players who don't own the game. A new GameChat feature will also let players with compatible cameras put themselves in the cockpits of the characters, with their chosen avatar mimicking their face movements. If you don't wan to be fully replaced by a Star Fox character, you can also add some cute Fox-ears or a Falco-inspired beak that moves when you talk.

Aside from the campaign and Battle Mode is Challenge Mode, where you can replay any stage you've cleared to take on a variety of new missions and challenges not found in Campaign Mode. These challenges come in either Normal or Expert difficulty modes, and you may just need the free aiming the Mouse Controls can optionally provide. Alternatively, players can split up Arwing control with one player on gunner duty while the other flies gracefully through space.
