Are you ready to test the limits of Unreal Engine 5? The Coalition seems to think so, as the team recently unveiled a new tech demo, called Alpha Point, during last week’s Game Developers Conference. The short demo showcases what will be possible during this generation of video games, with the technology being used for Xbox Series X games in the future.
Last week at the Game Developers Conference, Kate Rayner and Colin Penty from The Coalition showed off “Alpha Point,” the team’s first tech demo created entirely in Unreal Engine 5. With Gears 5 pushing graphics to all new heights with Unreal Engine 4 back in 2019, the team is looking to the future and demonstrated an early look at what’s possible with Unreal Engine 5 on Xbox Series X|S.
From its next-gen features such as Nanite, which allows for unlimited triangle budget, and Lumen, which allows fully real-time lighting with none of the traditional overhead tasks, Unreal Engine 5 will showcase the next generation of gaming on Xbox Series X|S, and The Coalition is excited to be on the leading edge of that future. The team also shared a real-time character rendering test on Xbox Series X and their first bits of discovery on what’s possible with next-gen character creation using Unreal Engine 5. The full presentation from Kate and Colin is available to view now on the Epic YouTube channel.
In addition, last Monday VFX Artist Mandy Morland presented “The Subtle Art of Not Making VFX.” The talk addressed how to excel by utilizing communication, collaboration and confidence in failure to be a better teammate.
