Today, 11 bit studios announced that their game The Alters, will be receiving a 20 hour story DLC titled Last Variable. After everyone else chose to leave, Jan Scientist stays behind on the hostile planet he's be trapped on to pursue a life-defining research opportunity, along with his alters. This expansion introduces new mechanics, an underground base to build, and a refined gameplay loop focused on terraforming the planet.
Unravelling the mystery of the Oasis requires specialized analysis from specialized alters - a Geologist, Biologist, Chemist, or Physicist. Yet each Jan has his own view on what science truly means. While you descend into a years-long cryosleep in your underground base, waiting for the planet's scorching sun to retreat, those working in Field Labs don't have that privilege.
