Better Than Dead sets May 12th release date

Taking First Person Shooter very seriously

Better Than Dead sets May 12th release date

The team at Monte Gallo and MicroProse have dropped a surprising update for their game Better Than Dead – a release date that is imminent. This brutal FPS is told from a bodycam perspective, and it looks hair-raisingly unnerving in its realism. If you're unfamiliar with the game, let's get caught up:

They broke into her life.
They filmed her. They destroyed her.
Now she's back — and she's filming them.

Better Than Dead is a brutal first-person shooter set in the depths of photorealistic Hong Kong.
You play as a survivor who’s done running. She’s got a pistol, a bodycam, and a kill list.

Every level is a raid. Every fight is personal.

Saving the other girls isn’t enough — you have to find the ones who broke you and show the world as you take them down.

That language, "Every level is a raid" immediately brings to mind the incredible movie series, The Raid (trailer here), with its relentless momentum and violence that is frankly unmatched. Better Than Dead is clearly trying to hit that same pace and feel, and I'm down for it. See for yourself:

The rest of the background is more descriptive, giving us some info on the setting and more detail on the revenge plot central to the game.

Set across a series of photorealistic locations inspired by classic Hong Kong action cinema, Better Than Dead puts players in the role of a survivor who’s done suffering. Armed with a pistol and a clear objective, every level is a direct, no-nonsense assault-fast, violent, and personal.

Built around immediacy and tension, the game strips away excess to focus on what matters: movement, reaction, and execution. Encounters are short, unforgiving, and decisive. Mistakes are costly. Success is earned.

With its release just weeks away, Better Than Dead is preparing to deliver a focused and uncompromising take on the first-person shooter.

Key Features

  • Raw, Close-Quarters Gunplay
Fast, responsive shooting where every encounter is decided in seconds. Precision, timing, and positioning are critical; hesitation is punished.
  • Bodycam-Style Presentation
A grounded, immersive visual approach that places players directly in the action, enhancing tension and immediacy in every fight.
  • Photorealistic Hong Kong Setting
Fight through dense urban locations inspired by classic action films: neon-lit restaurants, cramped apartments, nightclubs, back alleys, and rooftops.
  • Tight, Linear Level Design
Carefully structured levels built around momentum and escalation. No filler-just focused, high-intensity encounters from start to finish.
  • Relentless Pace
A gameplay loop designed for constant forward pressure, where players push through spaces quickly and decisively.
  • Cinematic Action Influence
Inspired by the energy and choreography of ’80s and ’90s Hong Kong action cinema, translated into gameplay-driven sequences.
  • Full Campaign at Launch
A fully playable single player experience from beginning to end across multiple handcrafted levels.

If all of this is exciting, then you won't have long to wait. Along with the new trailer, the team announced that the game is coming on the 12th of May, 2026.

Oh, remember when I said the "team at Monte Gallo"? Yeah - Monte Gallo is a ONE PERSON SHOP. Yep, this game is being made by a single developer. Some days I feel a slacker, and then I see something like this and I know it's true!
