NEW GAMES AT GENCON 2023
The Rich and the Good is a new edition of the cult classic “Hab & Gut”, designed by Carlo Rossi – the first in English language. In The Rich and the Good, players trade in commodities from all over the world, having access to inside information to aid their investments and manipulate the markets. The game uses an unusual “shared card hand” mechanic and an original victory condition – getting rich and being a benefactor at the same time.
What’s the best match to a Christmas tree – a crocodile, a small girl, or the pyramids? Ensemble is a visual, art-based cooperative game, easy and fast to play, for two to 10 players. They are challenged to “think” in syntony with each other, voting the best match between the revealed cards without communicating, to prove they are a close-knit group, much like musicians in an orchestra.
Cangaceiros is a strategic competitive game set in Brazil in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Feared throughout the Brazilian northeast, the “cangaceiros” were bandits who fight for honor and freedom, standing against the abuses of large landowners called Coronéis and the government. In the game, each player (2 to 5) plays a gang that tries to survive in the hostile desert territories, hunted by the Volantes, the state police trained to kill them. Each band will have a chief to choose from the 20 available, each with its own unique abilities and characteristics.
Against the Shadow is the first expansion of War of the Ring – The Card Game, a 2 to 4 players game inspired by Tolkien’s trilogy. Each player controls one or more of the factions in War of the Ring, either on the side of the Free Peoples or of the Shadow Armies, using a unique deck, reproducing the strengths and weaknesses of the specific factions they play with. Against the Shadow allows solo and cooperative play up to two players, on the side of the Free Peoples, while the Shadow factions are handled automatically, using special decks of cards included in the expansion. The expansion is due to release in September 2023, with a limited number of copies available for selling at Gen Con.
Fantasy World is an exciting RPG of narrative action, adventure, and exploration set in a fantastical world. Designed for three to five participants, it is an immersive experience that requires both strategy and imagination. Fantasy World is based on the popular Powered by the Apocalypse system and improves it with new rules and procedures: now everything is as clear, simple, unambiguous, accessible, and practical as possible.cPublished by MS Edizioni and distributed by Ares Games, the game is due to release in August 2023, weeks after the show.
WW1 Wings of Glory – Caquot M/Ae 800 Drachen, the most popular balloon of the First World War is coming for the miniature game of aerial combat Wings of Glory, allowing players to feature the “guardians of the skies” as the centerpiece of a scenario. The observation balloons played a critical role in the struggle for aerial and ground supremacy during the WW1, due to their ability to support troops, gather intelligence, and assist with artillery fire. The Special Packs feature them in two base colors, Sand and Brown, with everything needed to play with it in many different situations, and a decal sheet for customization.
Together with the Drachens, new models of the Nieuport 16, a great fit to use in play with the balloons, will release in September 2023, featuring the airplanes used by Jean Navarre, Squadrille Lafayette and Henri De Guibert.
