DXRacer Craft Series Koi Fish Chair review — Comfort and intricate design combine to form a top-notch chair

Choosing which gaming chair to purchase is hard. If you’re anything like me, every time you begin to search for a chair you immediately get overwhelmed and stop, telling yourself you’ll try again some other day. Who could blame you? The market is oversaturated, and many chairs look essentially the same, although price tends to vary wildly. The average person has little idea of the subtle differences between chairs and just wants something comfortable. Thankfully, I didn’t have to fight through that anxiety that sneaks in every time I stare mindlessly at a webpage full of chairs, because I was given a chance to check out a DXRacer Craft 2022 series chair – more specifically the “Koi Fish” or “Lucky Always” chair – and I’m happy to report that it marks off all my “must have” checkboxes.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a chair aficionado. Unlike our Editor in Chief Ron, who has reviewed more chairs than I’ve ever sat in during my lifetime, I rarely purchase new chairs. This review is solely coming from someone who appreciates a comfortable chair but isn’t necessarily savvy as to the intricacies of chair design.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Koi Pond DXRacer Craft chair is the stunning stereoscopic embroidered koi fish design featured on the chair back, along with the subtle embroidery details throughout the front and sides. The gold embroidery pops against the dark black of the PU leather chair, making the chair stand out from its competition. While the chair looks great in pictures, there’s little I can do to convey just how incredible the chair details look in person. A lot of hard work and dedication went into crafting this chair and it shows.

Looks are one thing but features and comfort are the reason why individuals purchase chairs, so let’s dive into those. This particular DXRacer Craft series chair has a recommended weight of up to 200lb, with a max weight of 250 lbs., while it has a recommended height of 5’7” and a max height of 6’0” – although I feel someone taller could easily use the chair and still be comfortable. The chair combines high density mold shaping foam covered by PU leather for a firm, but comfortable, seating experience which subtly shifts to better suit your contour. A multi-functional tilt with a 135-degree angle allows more than enough reclining ability, especially when paired with the cooling gel foam pillow.

The chair has a sturdy metal frame, with a 27.5” aluminum base set upon 60mm casters with PU coating, allowing the chair to glide effortlessly across carpet or flat surfaces. At its widest, the backrest is 20.8” wide while the seat is 22.4” wide and features a depth of 22”. A BIFMA certified class 4 gas lift allows for quick adjusting of chair height anywhere from 18” to 21”. Additionally, the armrests are 4D, and with the press of a button on the inside of each you can slide them back, forth, or turn them inward or outward. The armrests sit about 26” to 29” inches from the ground, depending on the chair adjustment height.

I quickly mentioned the cooling gel pillow, but I’d like to touch on just how comfortable this pillow is. The pillow is designed to regulate your body temperature while also remaining firm enough to naturally cradle your head and neck shape, and it does its job well. The pillow is firm, cool to the touch, and made from a comfortable memory foam. Tilting the chair back and relaxing on the pillow is far more comfortable than I expected.

A surprising feature, for me at least, was the integrated lumbar support. A rotary dial located on the right side of the chair allows you to adjust the backrest for optimal spinal support via a mechanism that allows the backrest to slightly protrude, providing exceptional support in the lower back area – which is an area I often have pains in.

I could ramble off specs all day, but anybody with google could easily find most of the above information. The point of a review is to express my opinion of a particular product, to hopefully help others who may be on the fence about whether to purchase the item. So that’s what I’m going to do: The 2022 DXRacer Craft series Koi Fish chair is incredible; the intricacy of the design, combined with the sturdy build, comfort features, and overall quality create an incredibly satisfying package which provides the most important feature of any chair – comfort.

Thanks to the molded foam, cooling memory foam pillow, and PU leather materials, the moment you sit in the DXRacer chair you’ll feel relaxed and supported. With a few adjustments to the arm rests, height, tilt, and lumbar support you’ll quickly find the perfect settings for long gameplay sessions. While the price is, admittedly, a bit high at around $479.00 which will turn off some potential buyers, I can say that the quality matches the price and does provide an exceptional seating experience while also providing a stunning showpiece for your game room that is sure to have friends asking about it and examining the design details.

2022 DXRacer Craft Series Chair Impressions - Koi Fish Chair

While I only had access to the Koi Fish chair, I do want to state that there are multiple chairs in this line with different designs but the same build and features. Designs featuring space, a cat, America, a rabbit, the thinker, and just a basic black version are all available through DXRacer’s website. Each design looks incredible, featuring the same dedication to detail that the Koi Fish design does, while also being varied enough to stand out from each other.
