based on the Marvel line comes another shot at making a Marvel MMO. that'll make 4 super hero MMO's out there, although I have to admit I prefer the Marvel universe so I'm more likely to enjoy this one barring horrid mechanics.

As I read on another site:
"There goes Champions Online when it launches."
(FYI - CO used to be a Marvel MMO before Marvel changed their minds)

Okay, so by the trailer, this is absolutely nothing like your traditional MMO, but instead a card game. I guess CO and CoH aren't exactly in as much danger anymore.

I guess CO and CoH aren't exactly in as much danger anymore. they only showed the bad guys playing with cards though, not the heroes, so I'm not sure if that was just some kind of evil deus ex machina for the villains to hatch their plans.

This is definitely a game aimed at your average 8-12 year old boy, I wouldn't expect it to compete with "full grown" MMO's like Champions or CoH.

6-12 actually. Understand that there are multiple Marvel MMOs in the works under the Gazillion umbrella (at least 2). This one is for the kids.
This is not a card game. It is a browser-based MMO where you run/fly around, blast baddies, etc. There's a collection mechanic where you acquire various Marvel characters that you can plug into your squad. I'm not positive, but I think the card aspect of the trailer is reflecting that.

Where did you see this is a browser-based game? I didn't see that anywhere. Can't really tell what the gameplay will be like, and the cards in the trailer really seem to imply it's a CCG-like game. The descriptions sound like you get to choose your heroes/team for different missions, but that could still be card based. Anyway it all looks fun to me.

You get to select which hero you want to play for a given mission. You level up your different squaddies to unlock different abilities and such, as well as the ability to use them in different social aspects. Once again, it's not remotely a CCG and it is browser-based. Let me find some links to back that up. BTW, Jason Robar-he's the studio head of Amazing Society-said in an interview yesterday that the game was for all ages, much like the show. Destructoid had a pretty good previewThis confirms the game is browser-based. Here's a quote regarding gameplay: "The combat sections will see players going through levels almost like a brawler. Left click is your main attack and right click is associated with your special powers. Players will be beating up minions as they make their way to fight famous Marvel villains such as Doctor Octopus or Super Skrull."

The graphics seem pretty impressive for a browser based game, I'm impressed!

Yeah, it looks pretty cool, doesn't it! If you check out the profiles of the different Marvel characters on the website, you can definitely see the trademark humor from the show. Apparently, every hero will have a signature emote, for instance Ben Grimm makes "snow angels" in concrete. That sounds like it will add to the fun of collecting the various heroes to see what their powers and emotes are. One thing that was interesting from that Destructoid preview was different versions of the same hero-they referenced Iron Man with ranged vs melee loadouts. I imagine we'll also see red suit vs black suit spidey, as an example.

I tried this out over the weekend. It was terrible. I know its for kids, but its still terrible even comparing it to games like Lego Universe and Wizard 101. On one hand it seems to be promoting gambling, on the other hand, the gameplay is frustrating in all the wrong ways. The fixed camera angle just killed it for me. Its too bad because I like the visual style.
