XCOM, the potentially controversial first person re-imagining of the classic X-Com series, has been given an official release date. Barring any unexpected alien abductions gamers can look forward to defending 1950’s America against the devious alien hordes via their consoles and computers on March 6th, 2012.
Featuring a bold new origin story told from a first-person perspective, XCOM pits Special Agent William Carter and his veteran team against the threat of human extinction. But every enemy is an opportunity – players will strike surgically against the alien menace, capture their technology, and by the science of desperation – turn the invaders’ weapons against them. Armed with these lethal new tools of war, players will command their squad on XCOM’s front lines: Main Street, USA.
In addition, 2K Games has released their E3 2011 trailer, showcasing some of the in-game action against the oily menace. Of course make sure you are over 18 before clicking on it; remember, we’re trusting you and those malicious aliens are always looking for their next subject!

Not much is known about the origin of the man known as Chris. Hailing from the great northern wilds of Ohio, he discovered Gaming Trend during a Hunting Expedition back in the early 2000's and hasn't left since. Back in the middle of the two thousand tenth Year of our Lord Pac Man the Powers That Be offered him a spot on the staff as a news monkey, and after several seconds of intense negotiations he accepted.
What is known is that back in the 80's he discovered a mystical device called an 'Atari 2600', and since then he has never looked back. Or forward. He does occasionally look left or right though. A few years later he bought a newfangled device called a 'Commodore 64' with money extorted from innocent schoolchildren who wanted to cross the street at the intersection where he was assigned as a crossing guard. This new device led him into the world of RPG's and adventure games, and later on mysteriously involved into an IBM PC, which led to a love of first person shooters and real time strategy games. Over the years of acquisitions Chris currently owns a Xbox 360, a Nintendo Wii, a Playstation 3, a 3DS and a high end PC. As for the future, well, until such a time where he can afford a WiFi covered island in the Caribbean he is content to always look out for the next big game or new shiny piece of technology, and the perfect root beer float.
