The first gameplay trailer of the sequel to the 1994 fast-paced disc-throwing sports game Windjammers has been revealed highlighting a look at the hand-drawn animated graphics and two newcomers, Grace and Max. Windjammers 2 is being developed by DotEmu, who were also responsible for the 2017 and 2018 ports of the original title.
Today’s video also introduces a portion of the fresh abilities Windjammers 2 will allow athletes to leverage on the court, adding another level of depth to the world’s most iconic frisbee sport. Competitors can incorporate all-new jumps, smashes, and slapshots into the all-out performances they put up on the court, making Windjammers 2 a true elevation of the series’ style of action so revered it’s found a home among the fighting game esports community.
Windjammers 2 channels the original hit’s infectious attitude in beautiful hand-drawn animations, making each match a gorgeous showcase of entrancing action. Bursts of color and totally fly visual effects bring the series’ signature flair to life, making every scored point look and feel as badass as Tony Hawk’s 900 at the X Games.
The original Windjammers could be seen as an evolution on the Pong format. Two players face each other and try to get the disc past their opponents by performing a number of moves including special moves for each character. Each section of the goal is worth a different number of points depending on the arena.
Windjammers 2 will be released on PC and Nintendo Switch later this year. A demo of the game will be playable at PAX East. For more information, visit the game’s official website.
