Was The Last of Us 2 accidentally confirmed by Naughty Dog?

Due to a slip-up by a developer, a sequel to The Last of Us may have accidentally been confirmed to be in development.

Reported on by Gamepur, during the “Uncharted Moments” live event Naughty Dog’s Josh Scherr referred to the game as the “first,” possibly referring to the existence of a sequel.  The quote is as follows: “All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric, here, [as well as] the first The Last of Us … did I say the ‘first The Last of Us?'”  Scherr seemingly realizes what he has just said, quickly correcting himself by repeating the game’s name but dropping the “first.”

This isn’t the first time The Last of Us 2 has been “confirmed,” as voice actor Nolan North (who played David in The Last of Us) admitted at this year’s Metrocon that he knows Naughty Dog is working on a sequel to the game, though his character would not be involved.

The Last of Us was originally released in June of 2013 for the PlayStation 3, with a remastered port coming to the PlayStation 4 the next year.  Make sure to check out our review of the PS4 version where we said, “The Last of Us is truly the game of a generation, and the Remastered edition brings the harrowing adventure to a whole new generation with expert style.”
