Today, the seventh expansion for the popular MMO World of Warcraft, Battle of Azeroth, has gone live. This expansion sparks a new era of warfare between the Horde and the Alliance as well as serves as a celebration of 25 years of rivalry between the two factions.
Today’s launch signals the start of a new era of all-out warfare between the Alliance and the Horde, as players around the globe set out on a vital mission to ensure that Azeroth’s future belongs to their faction. Defenders of the Alliance are called to the kingdom of Kul Tiras, ancestral home of Jaina Proudmoore, to enlist the aid of their legendary navy, while champions of the Horde must seek allies in the distant empire of Zandalar, home of the ancient Zandalari trolls. As part of the campaign ahead, heroes will clash for critical resources in myriad Island Expeditions; draw upon the strength of Azerite, lifeblood of the planet, to unlock new powers using the Heart of Azeroth artifact; prepare for a massive confrontation on the Warfront of Stromgarde; recruit new Allied Races to bolster their faction’s cause; and much more.
Having been officially released today, Battle for Azeroth will include a good variety of new quests and areas to explore. There are two fabled kingdoms that appear, the empire of Zandalar for the champions of the Horde, and the kingdom of Kul Tiras for defenders of the Alliance. In addition, there are new Allied Races with unique abilities such as the Dark Iron dwarves, Mag’har orcs, Highmountain tauren, Void elves, and more for players to create a new character of that race.
Players can also set out in groups of three on Island Expeditions to conquer a large variety of ever-changing enemies, environments and objects across the islands. There is even the risk of running into enemy players on different islands as well as cunning rival intruders.
Stromgarde Warfront has also been added as a large-scale 20-player cooperative Warfront. For this mode, players can capture resources to build their faction’s forces, lead their troops to lay siege to objectives, and fight the enemy commander to claim victory. This mode is inspired by classic Warcraft titles and their real-time strategy battles.
Finally, players can quest through 10 new levels including quests such as tracing the corruption of the Blood God to the Underrot, unearth the secrets of a lost titan vault, and escape from the Drust Realm of the Dead.
World of Warcraft – Battle for Azeroth is available now in both digital standard editions ($49.99) and Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99), which includes plenty of in-game bonuses such as a Seabraid Stallion mount (Alliance), a Gilded Ravasaur mount (Horde), and the Tottle the Baby Tortollan pet.
