With the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One out in the wild, many gamers are wondering when the industry will shift primarily to these new systems instead of also bringing out games for the previous generation consoles, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For Ubisoft, the answer is 2015.
Speaking to GameInformer, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the company plans to move away from PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year when considering the speed at which their successors are selling and the hardware limitations of the previous platforms.
“What we see is that this year is still fine for the PS3 and 360, but next year because they are selling very quickly, we’ll move to the new hardware,” Guillemot tells us. “After 2015, it will be hard for us to create games for those systems.”
You’re already seeing some hesitance on Ubisoft’s part to make a clean break from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era in its releasing Assassin’s Creed: Rogue for the previous generation, but there’s clearly an eagerness to move on seen in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Unity only coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, rather than releasing a downgraded version for the older consoles.
Recently, Guillemot also made known Ubisoft’s stance on Wii U, stating that the company was done bringing its more “mature” games to the platform due to low sales.
