Tokaido to return in April now owned by Stonemaier Games

Travel ancient Japan seeking the most fulling journey possible

Tokaido to return in April now owned by Stonemaier Games

Last year Stonemaier Games acquired the Tokaido brand and now the Tokaido is set to return this April in a "new" edition. The classic game is mostly unaltered except for some nice quality-of-life improvements:

In Tokaido, you are a traveler in ancient Japan. You will follow the prestigious Tokaido–a road between Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo)–as you try to have a rich and fulfilling experience. Pass through magnificent countryside, taste delicious culinary specialties, purchase souvenirs, benefit from the virtues of hot springs, and have unforgettable encounters on your journey.
Tokaido features a time-track mechanism in which the active player is the traveler who is furthest behind on the path. When you are the active player, you can move your character as far forward as you’d like (with required stops at Inns), gaining different types of set-collection benefits at each unique location.
  • Schedule: The product will launch on the Stonemaier Games webstore for everyone on April 2. Production is complete and freight shipments are arriving at fulfillment centers in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Tokaido will also be available from local retailers in late April.

  • Related products: In addition to the Tokaido game, the April 2 launch will include the solo pack (in the game or separately), Tokaido metal coins, a new custom disc golf disc, and a Rolling Realms promo realm. We are also working on our version of Tokaido Duo and the Tokaido expansions for later in 2025.

  • Details: Read and see more about the game--including the rulebook and design diaries--on our website.
