The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Announced for Xbox 360

The Witcher 2

Atari and CD Projekt RED have kicked off E3 early with an announcement that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be coming out for the Xbox 360.  From the press release, it’s noted that the 360 version will be an enhanced adaptation of the recently-released PC version and will incorporate numerous improvements and enhancements.  Odds are that it’ll include what patches have been released to a certain point and will have the UI and controls tweaked for the console as well.

CD Projekt RED Executive Producer John Mamais stated, “We’re very proud of The Witcher 2 and the highly positive reactions it has received from both our players and the media. Taking it to the Xbox 360 represents an exciting opportunity to introduce it to a new segment of the gaming audience. I’d like to stress that we are doing a full adaptation to the new platform, not just a straight port. Technology-wise, this means we are aiming to push its limits in order to get visual quality as close to high-end PCs as possible – and during E3, you’ll see how good the results we’ve already achieved are. Gameplay-wise, it means we are looking closely at all the feedback we have received about the PC release, and are addressing it during the adaptation process to be sure we provide a superb, completely polished gaming experience. Of course, we are not changing our vision. The Witcher 2 for Xbox 360 will have exactly same flavor, that of deep, mature, non-linear role-playing.”

John Mamais also commented on the planned release date, “Some people may be disappointed that the game is scheduled for the end of the year, not earlier. Market-wise, that might be profitable, but I think everyone has had enough of ports rushed to different platforms, so we really don’t want to follow this path. As always, quality and the players’ experience are paramount for us.  So now, we have a few precious months to focus on delivering a superb RPG to Xbox gamers, and we are going to do that”

We hope to have more on this through E3 with a supposed release date for late this year or early 2012.  Stay tuned for more information on this over the next few months!
