Developed by Games Omniverous and published by Exalted Games, The Job is funding now on Backerkit for a tabletop RPG that tells the story of one heist, via a few towers of dice. There's a free preview out now if you want some first-hand information.

Below are the contents of the box set, but first let me talk about the game's main mechanical conceit: the Dice Stack. Skill checks consist of rolling 2 dice, where 2-6 fails, 7-9 ask you to add dice to the Stack or take a setback, and 10+ lets you remove a die from the Stack. As the game progresses, the Stack will threaten to fall. Each time you rebuild it, you will add more dice, but after falling for the third time, you've lost the Job.

Reminiscent of Dread, a horror game built around constructing Jenga Towers, this has an interesting approach to heist stories. It constantly ratchets up the tension as you reach the climax. Every check you can successfully avoid saves you risk, snowballing as your decisions early game avoid or create problems in the endgame.

  • The Job Book – A5 size, 48 pages of pure heist-delight, including rules, stunts, and enough cinematic inspiration to make you feel like a criminal mastermind.

Designed by Andre Novoa, laid out by Guilherme Gontijo, and designed by lina&nando, The Job has already funded, and at time of writing has 10 days remaining on the crowdfunding. You can find that at this link or through the preview.
