The Behemoth unveils their new, self titled game

Today, The Behemoth, the studio behind games like Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theater, announced their new game BEHEMOTH.

Independent game developer and publisher The Behemoth has announced their upcoming arcade game “BEHEMOTH” along with a release date of October 31st, 2024 on Steam. Appropriately named after the developer’s beloved chicken mascot, BEHEMOTH celebrates the studio’s twenty-first anniversary and serves as a love note to the community for supporting the indie studio for such a ‘behemoth’ amount of time.

BEHEMOTH is a colorful experience that heralds back to the iconic days of retro arcade games. As the BEHEMOTH, you become the studio’s mascot chicken who must collect as many baby chicks as possible while dodging peck-uliar obstacles set against an array of colorful backdrops. The game features over 175 unlockable cosmetics to create your very own custom BEHEMOTH, along with daily leaderboards for highest score and most checkpoints secured.

With a history of announcing early, work-in-progress games and slowly revealing details about in-development titles, BEHEMOTH marks the first ‘stealth’ game drop from the longtime indie studio. BEHEMOTH was hatched while working on their previously announced Behemoth Roadmap updates, including the highly-anticipated Castle Crashers Painter Boss Paradise DLC.

After twenty-one years of making games with their iconic chicken mascot, The Behemoth decided it was finally time to celebrate chickens, surviving twenty-one years of game development, and the loyal fanbase that has made it all possible through their continued support.

“Our fat chicken has been a cornerstone of the company since the beginning,” explains John Baez, co-founder of The Behemoth. “In 2003, it starred in a little minigame on our first website. Visitors were prompted to lift The Behemoth chicken out of its nest and gently maneuver it to one of the roosts on the other side of the screen. If you didn’t succeed, the chicken would scream as it fell off the bottom of the screen. Luckily it would reappear back in the nest, ready for another try! Now, twenty one years later we are happy to make the iconic chicken the star of its own arcade game! Save some baby chicks! Save the world! Have some fun!”
