Smite World Championship X Day 1 wrap-up

SWC X kicked off today in Arlington, Texas making what is probably the biggest announcement to ever hit the Smite community. After keeping things under wraps for well over a year, Hi-Rez announced Smite 2 today, and the crowd went wild. This has been the single most requested thing from Smite fans for years, and not only is Smite 2 coming, it’s absolutely a true sequel. We got our hands on a playtest this afternoon, and our first impressions are certainly wonderful.

SMITE 2 - Official Reveal Trailer

Smite 2 is the same MOBA we all know and love, but prettier. The team is improving on so many things, from graphics and shading, to tweaking certain Gods abilities to make them seem even more epic. But don’t worry, they aren’t changing it too much. We very much recognized all of the Gods and their abilities, as well as the items. The item shop is much more straightforward, and much more polished. Smite 2 will be a lot more user friendly for new players to jump in on and learn.

As someone who has played Smite since beta, my personal opinion is that Hi-Rez is not only doing the franchise justice, but the way they are launching is perfection. Smite will still stay up and running, all of our gems, achievements, Mastery on gods, and any gem purchasable skin from here on out (called Cross-Gen skins) will move over to Smite 2 when it launches. You can read all about how that will work on Smite 2’s website. You can also sign up for alpha as of today, which will start sometime this Spring! I can say with certainty this weekend has been mind-blowing so far, and it’s only just begun! We will get to see more about Smite 2 over the course of the weekend, along with a deep-dive from the Smite 2 developers on Sunday.

Smite will still continue with Year 11 starting at the end of this month. Tomorrow we will get to see the new Conquest map in-depth, and it looks like there are some wild new changes being made to how things work! They also announced the release of the next Goddess in Smite, which will be Nut, the #1 fan requested God for quite some time. Nut will be a Hunter, and hopefully launching soon. Smite 2’s first new God, which will be playable on release, is Hecate, another fan-favorite. Both of these Goddesses look like they will be loads of fun, and their design is gorgeous.

As for the SWC Pro Games, things went quite as we expected. Matches today were best of 3, and the day opened up with the Styx Ferrymen vs the Solar Scarabs. Ferrymen won 2-0. Next up the Jade Dragons faced the Highland Ravens, with the Dragons taking it 2-0. The Leviathans vs Hex Mambo caused quite a stir, with Hex Mambo winning game two, but in the end the Leviathans took the win 2-1.

Tomorrow’s matches will start out with the Styx Ferryman vs The Jade Dragons at noon CST. You can also get some cool drops if you tune in on Twitch.

We have plenty of exciting interviews scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, with SPL players, Smite 1 and 2 devs, casters, and more, so be sure to stay tuned for exclusive Smite coverage here on Gaming Trend.
