It’s been a LONG time since we’ve had a good Hardboiled-esque Hong Kong cop drama game, and developer United Front Games agrees with us. This morning we have a new video showing off some gameplay of the August-slated SquareEnix title, Sleeping Dogs. Despite hitting in just a few months, we’ve not heard a ton on this one…or have we? Let’s read up before we take a peek at that video.
A deep array of combat moves and upgrades awaits Sleeping Dogs players who step into the shoes of undercover cop, Wei Shen. New bone-crunching kicks and devastating combos unlock as players earn face amongst their peers and respect from those who would challenge them. In Sleeping Dogs, the city itself doubles as an arsenal of deadly weaponry as real-world items from phone booths to TV sets, engine blocks to combat fish deliver a vicious and violent end to all who stand in your way.
Developed by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London Studios, Sleeping Dogs is a gritty and visceral open world cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong. Taking the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, players are tasked with taking down one of the world’s most fearsome criminal organizations from the inside. Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring one of the most intuitive and imaginative combat systems, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, singlehandedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crunching kicks and combos, vicious counters and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.
I saw this game last E3 when Activision was still at the helm! ( This title was to be a sequel for the True Crime series. ) Well, from what I saw, let me tell you that Activision’s loss is Square’s gain. Sleeping Dogs will hit shelves on August 14th for the PS3, 360, and PC – we’ll let you know how all this face-smashing plays in our E3 playtime. Stay tuned!
